As an early Christmas gift last year, my sister got me a Nintendo Switch Lite, and it has been my little companion ever since. It’s so compact and easy to navigate, it’s perfect for people that don’t necessarily consider themselves gamers.
But, I’m not here to promote the Switch. I’m here to tell about a game that I haven’t been able to stop playing on it; The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I might be a little late to the party, since it was released in 2017, but the game is amazing. I don’t know many people who aren’t fans of it.
I haven’t played any other Zelda games, so I can’t give an opinion on those, but Breath of the Wild is so beautifully developed and there was so much thought put into it. The ultimate goal of the game is to defeat Calamity Ganon, a monster that has overtaken Hyrule Castle. Link, the character you’re playing, needs to defeat him in the end. I haven’t gotten that far into the game, but I’m working my way up there.
It isn’t a game where you need to do a task one way or complete an adventure immediately. There are so many possibilities when it comes to solving the problems Link faces. For example, if you can’t find a weapon at the beginning of the game, you can use a tree branch as a temporary self-defense. Or you could just run away from a group of monsters until they lose interest.
It’s all very open, and lets the user decide how they want to go about the game. You can explore the world or do the adventures available to you in a systematic way. It’s all up to the user, and that’s what I love about it.
Another cool thing about the game is the graphics. I can’t begin to talk about them, so I’ll attach some screenshots I took while playing. The detail in the game is so meticulous and—should I say it? —breathtaking. I highly recommend giving this game a chance, if you haven’t already. I guarantee you’re going to enjoy it.
