How to Utilize Your Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

It is currently the dreaded “finals season”, where all the work from your professors suddenly hits you all at once. Once you make it through it, it’s so tempting to just lay on your couch and recover at home for the whole winter break. Trust me, I know. However, it may be beneficial to consider how to spend the break more productively! Therefore, take your few days to veg out on the couch and watch Netflix, but then it’s go time.

This is a good time to start looking for internships or jobs if you are a senior like me (yikes). One good place to start looking is  LinkedIn. If you don’t have one, you should make one. It has a large database available with loads of applications for jobs in many different fields. It’s also a great place to network with different people.

Also, Glassdoor is a good account to have because it has job applications and reviews from current and past employees from jobs. They can review about their experiences, salaries, and benefits, so if you are unsure about a job it is a helpful tool for researching the job environment. Of course, maybe you aren’t looking for an internship/job right now and instead want to reach some goals that you are putting off. Winter break is an opportune time to do them because there is so much downtime. It is better to get something done during this time then trying to find time in your busy schedule later in the year. Therefore, do yourself a favor and do it now, rather than put it off!
