Getting “Red” with Taylor Swift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

If you haven’t noticed Taylor Swift’s new album has just been released upon the world and it’s already dominating the charts. Taylor is known for her songs about ex-boyfriends, love and a little thing called revenge. Just a few things we can all relate to. Well on her new album RED Ms. Swift has taken her music in a new direction. Leaving her normal country roots she has made an album with more of a pop sound. Featuring 16 brand new songs, Red has a little something for everyone.

When it comes down to it you need to listen to the whole album. Give it a chance, I know most of us are used to her “normal” sound but there is something different yet exciting about this new album. While I would love to review every single song off of the album, it would make this article excruciatingly long.
Secondly if you don’t want to spend the $14.99 to buy RED off of iTunes here are my top 5 songs off the album that you need to know.

P.S. these go in no specific order

22: This song is everything an innocent and fun Taylor Swift song should be. With infectious beats and even catchier lyrics, you’ll find yourself singing along in no time!

Starlight: If you were a big fan of “Sparks Fly” off of Taylor’s Speak Now album this song will probably resonate with you. It’s about young love and how fun it can be. It will for sure put you in a good mood.

I Knew You Were Trouble: This is one of Taylor’s staple “boys suck, so I’ll write songs about them” song. I think the title of the song says it all. Not to mention the nice drop featuring some heavy beats during the chorus. This is something very different for Taylor Swift, but I absolutely love it.

Red: All I can say is emotions. We all know that every T-Swift album has that one song that just reminds you of every relationship you’ve ever had. Well this is that song! Just listen, I’m serious.

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together: The ONLY reason I’m putting this on the list is because I would hate myself if I didn’t. This song brings so much attitude and it’s perfect for in car karaoke with all of your friends. Not to mention it may be the most played song in my iTunes library right now. (Can you tell I’ve just been through a break up?)

Well that just about wraps things up. If you think I didn’t do justice to this list at all, leave your favorite song off of RED in the comments below and tell me why it should have made the top 5 list.
I’ll catch you gals later, I’m going to listen to “22” on repeat for the next hour or so.
