Campus Celebrity: Taylor Klassman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Wonder woman! Well actually it’s this weeks Campus Celebrity. But you might compare her to a super hero with all the volunteer and organizational work she does on Denison’s campus. I would like to introduce to you all Taylor Klassman. Not only is she the Operations Manager at The Bandersnatch (which you should all check out by the way), but she’s the President of Outlook, an LGBT activist, a prominent volunteer and a current senior she definitely has a lot on her plate.

After a recent Bandersnatch employee meeting I got the chance to sit and talk with Taylor about her year so far and ask a few questions about her favorite experiences on campus and advice for underclassman. Throughout her four years at Denison Taylor has been involved in an array of different activities on campus. But her all time favorite was when she decided to go on a Break Away trip during winter break and also participating in The Garden of Hope internship.

Being the wise person that she is I asked Taylor if she had any advice for the underclassman here at Denison and she gave me a very fascinating answer. She says “Don’t get stuck. So don’t think you’re limited by your major or your group of friends or the hundreds of things you signed up for at the involvement fair.” I have to agree that she’s right! Denison has so much to offer so make sure you go out there and check it all out. You never know what you may miss.

Since it is Taylor’s senior year she has her sights on what she’s planning to do after her 4 years on the hill. She’s eager to land a full-time job hopefully with a philanthropy firm she worked with in Chicago this past summer. If that doesn’t work out she plans on looking into volunteering with the Lutheran Volunteer Core for a year.

Lastly since Taylor is the President of Outlook I want to take the chance to promote Outlook’s Coming Out Week. It’s happening from the 8th-12th of October and the two big events scheduled are the LZ Granderson: Sports in Homophobia talk on Oct 10th at 7:30 in Herrick Hall & The Candlelight Vigil at the Flag Pole at 8:00 on the 11th. Make sure to check out these events if you can and say Hi to Taylor if you see her there!

Kaitlin is a sophomore at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She is currently studying Economics with a minor in Communication. When Kaitlin isn't studying, you can find her attending events for her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, writing articles, playing tennis, or watching Bravo obsessively.  As a Bravo fangirl, she would love to meet Andy Cohen.
