5 Pros of being Single on Valentines Day!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

So Valentine’s Days is less than a week away. Such a happy, loving, emotional time of year filled with kisses, Tiffany’s boxes, roses, and smiles, right? WRONG. For all of you single ladies out there, this time of year can seem far from picture perfect. But even though your February 14th won’t be filled with romantic walks through parks, fireworks, and rose petal-filled bathtubs, that doesn’t mean you have hit rock bottom. Though it may not seem like it, there are plenty of pros to being single on Valentine’s Day!  Beefore you get your panties in a bunch, consider these positive aspects of flying solo this year.

1.     You can take this time to bond with your other single friends! While everyone else is preoccupied with their BFs, you get to catch up with your other friends with gossip sessions and bonding. This time allows you to appreciate your girl friends and reminds you why they are so important.

2.     You don’t have to stress about what to wear, or where to go, or how to do your hair, etc. As girls we all know that with any sort date or outing there will undeniably be stress involved. So instead of worrying about all those little date-night stressors, you can focus your energy on more important things, like homework, and catching up on the Bachelor.

3.     You don’t need to buy anything! Save your cash, girl. You won’t need to worry about whether your gift is too extravagant or not extravagant enough. What if he gets you a diamond necklace and you got him a tie… GASP-FREAKOUT-MELTDOWN! Such escalations in anxiety can be avoided completely by single.

4.     Essentially, being independent on V-day means that you are worry free! You have no expectations to live up to and there will be no disappointment or heartbreak. You don’t have to leave the well being of your emotional self in the hands of boy. Nothing bad can happen, you are at peace…. ahhh serenity.

5.     Cooties.

So skip the cookie dough binge on Thursday and be proud to be independent! Now do as my girl Beyoncé says: All the single ladies, now put your hands up….. oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh.
