Your Fall Reading List: 3 Books You Won’t Be Able To Put Down

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delhi North chapter.

If you are one of those people who can’t decide on a book to start reading and get confused over a large number of choices and genres available, you’re in luck because here are three amazing book recommendations for you to dive into!

THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A F*CK by Mark Mansion

‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ is inarguably one of the best books ever written with an interestingly unique take on life and its meaning. Mark Manson tries to familiarise or rather normalize the concept of failing and having problems. The key to living a happy life, he says, is not to prevent the creation of more problems but to solve them. The idea of being utterly positive is something that he ridicules and advises the readers to try and be comfortable in their own skin and worry about things that actually matter instead of wasting time and energy on trivial issues. After all, Friedrich Nietzsche rightly said, “To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.”

The author’s writing style along with the relatable and sometimes funny examples are sure to keep you hooked till the very end. The book is a must-read if you want to look at life realistically. I am 100% sure that Mark Manson will change your outlook towards life with this 212-page long novel.

THE SILENT PATIENT by Alex Michaelides

If psychological thrillers and suspense novels are essential to your existence then, ‘The Silent Patient’ should be your next read. The narrative revolves around Alicia Berenson, a talented artist leading a happy life, until one day she decides to shoot her husband five times and never speaks again.

Theo, a forensic psychotherapist, fascinated and slightly obsessed with this unusual and slightly disturbing case, makes it his goal to get to the bottom of it. And so begins this tale of twists and turns. Not only will you be surprised at the very unexpected ending but you’ll also want more even after this exhilarating and sophisticated novel ends.

Whether you’re a big thriller fan or not, READ THIS BOOK! Trust me, you will thank me later.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD- Harper Lee

“Until I feared I would lose it, I did not love to read. One does not love breathing.”

-Harper Lee, To Kill A Mockingbird

I had never thought that it’d be possible to fall in love with a book but Harper Lee surely proved me wrong. Set in Alabama, this book tackles the issue of racial discrimination and demonstrates how the world is largely unfair, tainted by the blood and tears of innocent people. The central theme of the book, something which is also reflected in the title itself, is innocence and its destruction by evil. The narrator of the story is Scout Finch, a six-year-old girl who learns valuable life lessons when her father Atticus, a lawyer by profession, takes up the case of a black man, wrongfully accused of assaulting a white woman.

No review or summary can ever fully grasp the beauty of this book, there is so much for the readers to admire that every time you’ll read it, you’ll find something new worth holding on to. Reading it will surely take you through an emotional-coaster ride.

So what are you waiting for? Get these books and start reading!
