TURNING 20 – ENTERING THE MOST PROBLEMATIC YET AMAZING DECADE OF YOUR LIFE

“If you thought turning 18 was the “it” moment in your life, wait till you reach 20”, “not only do you get a bit wiser about the world and humble yourself, there is so much more freedom that comes with not being a teenager anymore.” Statements like these definitely make your 20s sound like the best adulting deal out there but actually doing it can be more daunting than you would have anticipated.

Not only are we talking about dealing with real-life problems on our own (since we are all ‘grown-up’ now), this is the age when most of us move out of our houses and even leave our cities. Surely, the freedom that comes with leaving curfews and strict parents behind is dearly cherished, but the sad truth is the cons sometimes outweigh the pros. In all honesty, can anyone actually feel fully equipped to handle adulting all alone? The major chunk of sadness when dealing with growing up and getting wiser comes from just this one realization – the fact that you will mostly have to figure out the ways of the world on your own. Nobody else can wise up for you.

Going through the same thing on a daily basis, this same hassle of how to finally be an adult now and enjoy it in the process will certainly make anyone doubt if the hype is even worth it. How can anybody enjoy freedom if it comes with a hundred other burdening responsibilities?

This entire intimidated life of being an adult is extremely overwhelming. But however much daunting it may get at any stage of life, it can never take away the experiences that come with it. Be it struggling to eat more than two meals a day and making sure you are fed or be it managing your finances on a daily basis, life can really go down the drain for you. But no one can take away from you the feeling you get at the end of a successful day of surviving all on your own – the exhilarating sigh makes all the struggles worth it.
