In today’s day and age, every individual aspires to be his or her own boss. People feel restricted because of the rigid working hours of a 9 to 5 corporate job. They often condemn this work culture and believe that it poses a threat to the creativity and growth of an individual. This argument has led to the exponential rise of freelance work culture.

Freelance work culture typically means being self-employed, wherein freelance workers are hired for diverse projects/ assignments by different companies. This culture has resulted in people becoming more financially independent. For example, many Indian women are unable to work due to a lack of time. This is because the patriarchal society burdens women with all the household responsibilities. It is very hard for an Indian woman to have a life of her own due to her commitment to her family and children. However, freelance work culture allows them to work in their spare time as the working hours are flexible.

Another reason for the steady increase of freelancers is the satisfaction of every employee’s ardent desire for a pleasant work environment. Corporate life can be tiring and burdensome, along with a heated work environment. Comparatively, freelance work feels like a breath of fresh air. Since the youth of the country strives for innovation and creativity, this culture allows them to put their creative minds to use.

During the covid-19 pandemic, the importance of freelance culture surged extensively. According to the estimations of the International Labour Organisation, approximately 400 million people lost their jobs. This made people gravitate towards temporary work, which essentially meant freelance work. It became more convenient for people to do remote work for flexible hours while staying at home. Moreover, the quality of work also increased. This is because people were more driven to work hard as they had an incentive to acquire more projects with new clients and companies. Since freelancing promises immediate reward for the effort, it incentivizes and motivates people, leading to efficient and effective quality of work.

Another advantage is that freelance work culture is extremely cost-effective from the point of view of the company. Companies are able to save a lot of their money by centralizing their attention-specific projects through short-term hiring. The cost of long-term employment is successfully saved on the part of the company.

In conclusion, India is witnessing an accelerating growth of the freelance work culture. Freelance workers have paved a path of success for themselves. They are on their way to ensuring and establishing a better standard of living for one and all.
