An Open Letter to Miley Cyrus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

Dear Miley,

The day was April 7th. My friends and I had been awaiting your concert for months, buying tickets the second they came on sale, all the way back in October. We had done our hair up into your signature buns, and put on our craziest outfits. We were about to leave for Time Warner Cable Arena when I got a horrible phone call from a friend who was already at the arena: you had cancelled #bangerz.

My reaction was similar to the Five Stages of Grief. Denial came first. This had to be some sort of joke. Maybe it was radical performance art, and you were putting your fans through a roller coaster of emotion before an amazing show. Next came anger. How could you do this to your fans, who had spent so much money to come see you?! You said you had the flu, but you performed in Raleigh the next night. As anyone who has ever had the flu knows, it is not a one-day affair. We proclaimed that we were “so done” with you and would never listen to your music again. Then we began to bargain. Maybe you would reschedule? But when we got our refunds from LiveNation, this hope was swiftly crushed. Sadness set in. We really were not going to see you in concert. What a tough pill to swallow. After months of excitement, this was how it all ended.

But then, acceptance came. Sure, we were missing out on a totally ridiculous concert that was sure to shock and awe, but worse things have happened. Also, I get to spend my “Miley money” on a fun treat for myself. Online shopping, here I come.

Sincerely,

A Former Fan
