New Semester Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

As much as we love ringing in the New Year with family and friends, the reality is that as students our calendars simply don’t revolve around the changing of the year the way they do the changing of the semester. So really, what we should be making are new-semester resolutions. Forget 2016, what are we going to accomplish this semester. These are potential new semester resolutions or come up with your own.

Make time for people.

Mine is bring a guest to my eating house every week. For me, this is an easy way to promise myself that I’ll make at least some time for friends who I may not see as often just because our paths don’t always cross. For those not in a house, there are plenty of other ways to do this. There are other strategies like study with a friend at least once a week.  Or just a blanket resolution of try not to lose touch with friends.

Call home more often.

Whatever that entails. Family, friends, siblings, whoever wants to hear from you or you want to hear from. Maybe if you live near by its go home more often. Or set a specific call time with whoever it is you want to make sure you’re reaching.

Stress less.

Ha. Hahaha. I know. I’m hilarious. But in all seriousness. I’m going to prioritize my health over my grades is an excellent resolution sometimes. So is I’m going to take at least one class that is purely because I really want to.  Or I’m going to do Yoga once a week. Another big one is I’m going to make an appointment at the counseling center, because sometimes that’s what you need and the first step can be really tough.

Be Healthy.

Whatever that means for you. Maybe I’m going to go for long walks every day, maybe I’m going to eat healthier or work out, maybe I’m going to focus on my mental health, maybe I’m going to spend more time with friends. Any resolution that you want to that will help you be more mentally physically or emotionally healthy.

This is when our calendars really reset. Make of that what you will, but have a wonderful semester!
