This summer I reconnected with my love of reading fiction. I often found myself enjoying the light hearted nature of a summer romance or attempting to solve a mystery before the ending. Here are my Top 8 reads from this summer. You can add them to your list for next summer or continue to read them as the fall season is starting. 

  1. Archer’s Voice

Archers voice looks at an unlikely friendship between an outcast of a small town and a newcomer who is recovering from past trauma. This story is a beautiful reminder to be open to others and that love can help overcome.

  1. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

The book follows Pippa, a high school student who decides to cover a murder that happened in her small town for a school project. As she dives deeper into her research, she starts to learn more about what happened the night the crime happened. 

  1. The Chain

The Chain is a gripping thriller that follows a mother whose daughter has been taken in a Kidnapping scheme that requires her to continue the chain to keep her child alive. It looks at moral dilemmas and the lengths parents are willing to go to keep their children safe. 

  1. The People We Keep

A story about a girl, April, who has never felt like she fit in anywhere and is searching for love and acceptance. She is an aspiring musician who uses her music as a way out of her hometown. The People We Keep is a beautiful story about April figuring out her life and meeting many special people along the way who help her discover what home can feel like. 

  1. The Half-Life of Love

The Half-Life of Love is set in a world where people are told once they have reached the halfway point of their life. This story follows Finn who reached his “half life” very young, and September who is a research student at a facility that is trying to understand the “half life”. In this inspiring and emotional story we see an unlikely friendship and the importance of living each day to the fullest. 

  1. One True Loves

One True Loves, which has now been adapted into a movie, tells the story of a woman whose husband goes missing in a helicopter crash and doesn’t return. Years later she is at her engagement party with another man and she receives a call from her missing husband saying he’s coming home. 

  1. Happy Place

Happy Place follows a couple that is pretending to be together for their best friend’s weekend getaway. It looks at the ups and downs of the trip and how they can relate to each other after being apart for so long. 

  1. The Match 

The Match is about a boy who was found abandoned in the woods at a young age and his search to find his family. Along the way he uncovers secrets that lead to more confusion of who he really is.
