Content warning: potentially sensitive topics about world news.

Oh. My. Goodness. We’ve had a lot happen this week. I’ve been keeping up with the news a bit and I wanted to write a piece to update people with what’s going on right now.

Donald Trump is Running for Re-election.

You heard it. The 45th president announced a White House bid for 2024 earlier this week. He is aiming to become only the second commander-in-chief ever elected to two nonconsecutive terms. He is seeking the Republican presidential nomination for 2024.

Stray Missile Crash in Poland.

A stray missile crashed in Poland on the 15th of November, and many were speculating that it had been sent by Russia. According to NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg, the missile that hit Poland appears to have been fired by Ukraine’s air defenses rather than a Russian strike. Two people lost their lives over this mistake.

Protests in Iran.

Iran is entering a critical phase as they are still attempting to quash anti-regime protests. Activists are accusing state forces of deploying heavy weapons and helicopters. This is a nationwide uprising that has been growing since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in September, who was beaten into a coma by the “morality police” and then died from her injuries. She was arrested for a headscarf that was deemed “inappropriate.” People are now revolting and calling for an end to the decades-long authoritarian rule of the country’s top clerics. Hundreds of lives have been lost in these protests.

Twitter is Falling?

Ever since Elon Musk took control of Twitter in late October, there is now a mountain of debt involved, the site is losing revenue, costs are surging, and Twitter itself may fall. Musk claims that his $44 billion Twitter takeover might result in a bankruptcy filing, after he fired over 7,500 employees. Twitter engineers are now saying that the collapse of Twitter is imminent. Now we wait.

Student Loan Forgiveness.

President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program has now been blocked by a federal appeals court after being halted by a separate court ruling. Biden has since asked for the blockages to be lifted by The Supreme Court, but we are waiting for a response. The panel of judges say that the order will remain in effect until further notice. We may see this order lifted in the future, but in the meantime, fill out the loan forgiveness application. You will then receive an email stating whether or not your loans will be forgiven if the blocks are lifted.

Mass-Shooting in Colorado Springs.

I am deeply saddened to have to write about this, but there was another mass shooting in Colorado Springs at an LGBTQ+ nightclub, to which we have lost 5 victims. All five victims have been identified: Raymond Green Vance (he/him), Kelly Loving (she/her), Daniel Aston (he/him), Derrick Rump (he/him) and Ashley Paugh (she/her). I will not name or speak of the suspect in question, as I would like to save this space to mourn the victims.

The Princess Diaries 3.

On a lighter note, there are whispers of The Princess Diaries 3 being in the works at Disney. Apparently the film will be a continuation of the first two movies, but we are unsure of details or if the previous cast will be returning. Keep an eye out!
