Why is Water Important?

It’s a no-brainer that it’s important to drink water but do you really know why? There are countless benefits to staying hydrated, the only bad thing associated with drinking a boatload of water is the excessive trips to the bathroom. The absolute biggest advantage to staying hydrated is that it eases any strain on the heart and helps muscles work more efficiently. Hydration helps your blood flow faster and helps your body to maintain healthy blood pressure. When your heart pumps nearly 2,000 gallons of blood a day, water tends to act as a superhero.

Trying to get that booty? Do all the squats you want but if you would like to avoid muscle cramping then you need to be drinking water like you’re pre-gaming. The more water you drink, the longer and harder your muscles can work before getting tired and sore which will help you get that juicy peach!

Skin is a big deal and I hate when I develop a break out because I’m stressed or I ate a little too much ice cream over the weekend, I know I’m not alone in this. Face masks are relaxing, and exfoliating is important, but water can help revive me from my lack of self-control by giving my skin a radiating glow. Skin is the largest organ on everyone’s body and without proper hydration, it will get dry, tight, tired, and can lead to premature wrinkling. Hydrating moisturizer helps too but only on the outer layers of the skin, drinking water is the best way to keep looking young and radiant!

Water can be boring though and infused water isn’t everyone’s ‘cup of tea’. There are some juicy foods that can help keep you hydrated too, thank goodness. The first obvious hydrating food is watermelon. What you might not have known is watermelon also has vitamin C, vitamin A, magnesium and is super low calorie, how could you say no to that? Cucumbers are over 90% water and can help a lot with hydration too, along with strawberries, cantaloupe, peaches, oranges, lettuce, zucchini, bell peppers and more! Staying hydrated shouldn’t be boring and these water-rich foods can help you enjoy staying healthy!

How Do You Know You’re Hydrated?

One trick to knowing if you’re drinking enough water is to do one simple equation; divide your weight in half and that is the amount of water in ounces that you need every day, but it’s just a suggestion of the minimum daily intake of water you will need.

If you weigh 170 pounds you will need at least 85 oz. of water or if you’re 125 pounds you need at least 62.5 oz. of water a day. It’s an easy way to gauge how much water you’ll need each day! Also, if you ever feel thirsty then it’s an obvious sign that you should drink more water. If you ever crave soda or an energy drink try to pound down a glass of water first, it might subside your craving and make you feel more full too.
