RBF the acronym for Resting B*tch Face and a problem for girls everywhere. If you’ve ever been told the following that means you have RBF too: I thought you were a b*tch when I first met you, I was intimidated by you, wow you’re actually nicer than I thought or I didn’t think we were going to be friends. Sorry to inform you that you have RBF too, but don’t worry I am here to make it a little easier for you.

First, learn how bad your RBF is. Do you only look mean when you zone out? Is it more of a defense mechanism while you’re walking? Is it all day? Is it all day and night? I ask because some of these you don’t need to change like defensive RBF a killer thing to have so no one tries anything. However, RBF while zoning out can be a bit of a problem especially if you are in public and happen to be making eye contact with you. One solution I have found is actually just having my friends call me out on it every time. A little nudge or even a simple smile can fix this type of RBF instantly without even having to try.

However, if you always look like you’re in a murderous rage you’ll have to put a lot more effort into calming it down. A lot of the time I can tell that my RBF has kicked in because I can feel a slight tension in my jaw and my line of vision being hyper-focused. Whenever I realize that it’s happening a simple thought of hanging out with my friends is enough to put a smile on my face which makes me look much more approachable. Another tip is to play some music that makes you happy when you walk not only does it make your steps feel lighter but it also will usually put the slightest smile on your face.

RBF is a pain to have sometimes if you are a social butterfly but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing and if anyone ever tells you to “smile more”. Don’t take that as a reflection of you, that’s just your boss b*tch face and if you don’t want to change it don’t (unless you work a customer service job then definitely try one of these tips so you can make some tips). Just remember that under that stony gaze and set jaw you’re a total sweetheart even if people can’t tell when first meeting you.
