There is no better bonding experience with your coworkers than them watching you hover over your phone, stressed out as hell, waiting for your phone to give you the confirmation message, saying “Your purchase is confirmed.” A couple of days ago, tickets for Hozier’s 2024 tour went on sale. I found myself at work on that day and decided that I needed to get in line on the website no matter what.

As you might have guessed from the title, I was successful! My boyfriend and I will be attending the Unreal Unearth tour in Boise, ID, so I thought I’d compile a list of songs that I am absolutely DYING to hear!

1. Unknown / NTH

This song is from Hozier’s newest album, Unreal Unearth, and is arguably one of his best songs. The lyrics are perfectly composed and mesh wonderfully with the delicate guitar & choir in the background. Later in the song, the simple acoustics are joined by a full band. If there’s one thing that Hozier is good at (besides singing, composition, writing, etc… you get the point), it is creating stunning bridges. The transition between the third verse and the bridge is so powerful and never fails to get me emotional.

2. Cherry Wine

One of Hozier’s oldest songs, Cherry Wine is one of my top contenders when thinking about which songs I’m most excited to hear. This one is cool because the released version of this song is already from a live performance. So, I’m curious how it will sound actually live…if that makes sense! Again, I’m a sucker for simple acoustic performances, so this one is a clear choice for me!

3. De Selby (part 2)

When I first listened to Unreal Unearth, I was not expecting a song like this! I was very pleasantly impressed by this song considering it’s different from his usual sound. It’s much more produced, but not in a bad way! There are a lot more computerized and edited bits and it makes for a great upbeat song to follow De Selby (Part 1). I also love the lyrics in this song, but that’s a common theme when talking about how much I love his music.

4. Wasteland, Baby!

Warning: lovey-dovey couple stuff ahead, you’ve been warned! My wonderful boyfriend and I are nearing our 1-year Anniversary and I am so very excited to celebrate with him. A co-worker recently asked me if he and I had a “song.” After pondering it for a second, I remembered how much I loved this song when we were first dating. In fact, the first time we danced together, it was to this song! The song lyrics are so beautifully written and remind me of him. So, I look forward to hearing this song with him at the concert live.

5. Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene

Alright friends, it is time to reveal my favorite Hozier song of all time. This song has a chokehold on me. From the unpredictable and delightfully surprising time signature at the beginning to the lyrics; it all is a true work of art. There is something so mysterious and seductive about the lyrics paired with the instrumental rhythm. This is yet another song that does not sound particularly like his usual music, but I think it’s a nice twist that happens early in the order of Hozier’s self-named debut album. If you haven’t heard this song, I would highly recommend giving it a listen!

There are so many other songs that I am excited to hear, so I have compiled a playlist on Spotify of all of my picks. Whether you’re a huge Hozier fan like me, are going to his 2024 tour, or need a good introduction to his music, this playlist is great!
