Fine and Fresh Faced- Spring Time Skin Care Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

There’s no better way to welcome spring than by stepping into it fresh faced and ready! Good skin care is something that never goes out of style; and it might be one of the simplest ways to feel replenished and feel as if you have your life pulled together (no denying we all search for that feeling sometimes). Having dealt with acne since the age of 15, on top of dealing with the mess of having dryness, oiliness, redness, and just about anything else you can think of… I’ve learned a thing or two about how to treat your skin well and have found some amazing products over the years.

Toners

Lush Breath Of Fresh Air Toner

Lush has slowly become, hands down, one of my favorite skin care brands. Their products are hand made using fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, essential oils and safe synthetics. Each product also has a sticker telling you who made it and on what day, as well as how long the product will be most effective for. The Breath Of Fresh Air toner is a blend of cooling aloe vera, soothing rose and clarifying herbs that help you achieve smooth and balanced skin. The aloe vera and rose work together especially well to help tone down unwanted redness. To help boost your skins hydrations, apply this toner after you wash your face, and before applying your moisturizer.

Humphreys Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Facial Toner

A must for those with oily skin. Using witch hazel helps target and regulate oil production and is great for removing residue built up on your skin. It also purifies, clarifies and refines pores meaning it’s great for all skin types as well. Witch hazel and any facial toner is most effective after washing your face, but can be used alone for anyone with less problematic skin to help clean your face and give you a fresh glow. Humphreys is also super affordable and can be found at most local stores.

Lotions/Moisturizers

Lush Imperialis Moisturizer

The Imperialis moisturizer is lightweight, fresh smelling and is a perfect moisturizer to begin your morning with. It’s made with lavender, which helps encourage your skin to find a balance whether it’s oily or dry. This product is helps give your skin ultimate hydration when used after a toner.

CeraVe Renewing SA Lotion

CeraVe is a super reliable and well-known brand that you can find essentially anywhere. This particular Renewing SA Lotion works best for extremely dry, rough and bumpy skin. I used this product mainly throughout the winter to help battle the effects of the freezing and dry weather on my skin, but is still a product that I will use a few times a week throughout spring to give my skin the perfect amount of moisture. Personally speaking, it is best used when applied before bed because it is a little heavier and is extra moisturizing. This lotion works best when applied liberally and massaged well into your face.

Jojoba Oil

This 100% pure and organic oil is great for not only skincare- but for COUNTLESS other aspects of body care as well. Jojoba oil is known for helping with acne scars, reducing redness, and is extra moisturizing. Having acne prone skin, I use this less frequently than an average person would to avoid clogging my pores. Nevertheless, it is still a personal favorite- I use it around my eyes and eyebrow area because it contains ingredients that help fight aging and is gentle enough and full of vitamins so that it can also be used directly on your eyebrows and eyelashes.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Night Mask

Those with acne prone skin- you will love this one. This mask is extra cooling and made with purifying tea tree oil and salicylic acid that helps target blemishes as you sleep. But it goes beyond helping you look good! The cooling affects are an amazing addition to your nightly skin care routine and will help you end your day feeling calm and fresh as ever.

Mario Badescu Facial Sprays

I could go on all day about the Mario Bedescu Facial Sprays. I won’t sit here and tell you that they have made drastic changes to my skin, but I keep repurchasing this product for good reason. While most of my substantial skin clarity changes came from switching my makeup foundation products and switching face washes, these facial sprays are full of nutrient-rich botanicals that help moisturize your face in the BEST feeling way possible. The aloe, cucumber and green tea spray leaves your face feeling so cool and rejuvenated. This one, being my favorite of the two, is one I typically use after applying my makeup as a lightweight setting spray, and as the very last part of my nightly skin care routine before I go to bed to leave my skin feeling cool and clean.

Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam

I’m ending this on one of my most recent, and favorite, skin care purchases thus far. This one I don’t use on my face (the whole acne prone skin thing, ya know..) but has become one of the most important aspects of my skin care routine. The Australian Bondi Sands self-tanning foam has been an absolute game changer. In the previous years, I would use tanning beds throughout the winter in attempts to have a decent base tan. But throughout this last year, healthy skin and good skin care has become a huge priority of mine and I decided to avoid tanning beds for obvious reasons. This self-tanning foam is best applied with a mit, and will give you a beachy bronzed look that lasts for a few days up until a week, depending on the individual.
