HC CUA Takes A Trip To The Beacon House: Girls In Action!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CUA chapter.

Last week Her Campus CUA volunteered at The Beacon House located right down the street from Catholic University. Our very own writer, Brianna Bee volunteers there as much as she can and introduced Her Campus to this amazing opportunity.

“Girls in Action is a volunteer program partnered with Campus Ministry and Beacon House. Girls in Action works with young girls ranging in ages of 6-12 years old. Women students go to Beacon House to teach the young girls about healthy lifestyles, exercise, nutrition, sports, higher education, and leadership. Girls in Actions helps cultivate confidence and motivation for the young women and allows for CUA students to act as mentors. It’s really all about girl power because who runs the world? GIRLS”

                                                                                                                                                  –Brianna Bee

We thought it would be a great idea to integrate Girls in Action and Her Campus CUA. We figured we could teach the girls about journalism; specifically how every woman has a voice and exploring the different ways she can use it. For the first half of the session we each partnered up with the girls and conducted interviews, and then for the second half we showed them how to navigate through the Her Campus website. We were able to ask them a few questions and taught them how to conduct an interview themselves. The  experience was full of energy and positivity, and the girls inspired us with all of their dreams for themselves and the world! Now…. *drumroll please* …..introducing the girls from “Girls in Action”:
