Dear Mr. Potter,

I don’t remember when I first met you. However, I remember hearing so many different stories about all of your adventures before I could even see them for myself. At one point not so long ago, I decided to sit down and watch your first story. It was the story of you trying to find the Sorcerer’s stone! I don’t know why I hadn’t seen anything like this before, but it was like I found a whole new world, exactly where I belonged.

I didn’t like you at first.

Honestly, I can’t remember why. It could have been that you were always super popular in my classrooms at school, and I always thought that those stories were the worst, and they didn’t have any depth to them. When I first picked up your book to read it, I read three pages, then the next time I read about 10, and then 30. Finally, my mom told me that to decide that you don’t like something you have to try it first, and that goes for books as well. You have to read at least half of the book before you can decide to quit. I always loved reading, so I didn’t understand why it was so hard to read your story. When I finally got to the center of your first book, I couldn’t put it down. I was in a whole different universe where I could be anyone I pleased.

I got to know you around the age of 16 and ever since we have done so much together. You were generous enough to share your friends with me as well – Ron, Hermione, Neville, Luna, and more – which I’ll always be grateful for. You were really there for me through the last year and a half, along with all your amazing friends. The pandemic really did tear me apart, but you all helped me build myself up to a person I could’ve only ever imagined to be. I was helping you and your friends with whatever you were doing, whether that be playing wizard’s chess, sneaking around the Hogwarts grounds, or even watching the Quidditch World Cup. You and your friends became more popular than I ever was, but you were all still underdogs at heart. I found that I was able to relate to you more than anyone else I knew. You helped teach me to stand up for those weaker than myself; you showed me that no matter how bad things could get, they could always be worse and would get better; you helped show me how to reach deep within myself to fight my own personal Dementors on a daily basis.

You taught me what it’s like to be a Gryffindor! You are the epitome of Gryffindor if I do say so myself. You are outgoing and not afraid to speak your mind, you are brave and don’t back down, no matter the consequences. You stand courageous and never show fear, even when it’s eating at your bones. Without you, I would have made quite a few different decisions in my life, and I wouldn’t be where I am today. These experiences gave me a whole new way to perceive everything.

I’m sorry that we have months where we drift apart, but life has been super busy, and I haven’t had time for everything let alone hanging out with some of my best friends away from Hogwarts. Even when we don’t hang out, you are always there, in my heart, and you will always hold a special place there. I haven’t visited in a while, but I think I might revisit you over holiday break. It’s quite funny how that happens though, isn’t it? I used to love to read, but it seems as though I barely have time to do much but study, sleep and work these days. But hey, judging from the new play about your later life, you’ve been busy with your own personal life as well!

I just want you to know that no matter how much we’ve drifted apart lately compared to how close we used to be, I am who I am today because of you. I have and will always carry you and the things I’ve learned from you throughout my life. I’ll always be thankful to you, and I’ll never forget you. I cannot wait to introduce you to all the new friends I’ve made and hope they get to know you just as well as I do. Hopefully, by that point in time, we are back to seeing each other quite often. Maybe one day I’ll have children and will be dropping them off at Platform 9¾ where our friendship began. I look forward to getting acquainted, as the past year and a half were full of adventures. It is unquestionable that we will be able to pick up as if we were talking to each other like it was just yesterday.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Potter. It has been the best adventure of my life.
