Studying Abroad Explained by Parks and Recreation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

Studying abroad is one of the most unique experiences that one can have. Living in another country with a bunch of people your age, “studying”. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like real life, especially when you’re in a completely different timezone than your family and friends. You grasp onto the people around you and try to do everything that you can in your new city. It’s funny, weird, and exciting. To better explain what it’s like, we have the Parks and Recreation cast to help.

That feeling when your roommate is the only person that speaks English or understands where you’re from, and you don’t want but need their company.

Freaking out because the country you’re in doesn’t have the streaming services you so desperately relied on back home.

Realizing that you can’t amazon things to you at the touch of a hand, you have to… find things in stores.

Putting everything that you own on because turns you didn’t pack everything that you should have.

Living that glorious pass/fail life that only comes once in your college career.

Trying to not look like a complete idiot, tourist when you go to clubs. This is the cool dance move, right?

Meeting someone abroad that is just as weird as you. It’s a beautiful, international thing.

Thankfully being abroad is something that many of us are in together and can talk about how funny it is to be an American in a completely new place. And, everyone knows you’re American. That’s just how it is. And thankfully we have the Parks and Recreation cast to make us feel like we’re not being dumb all the time.

I hope you enjoyed reading this!

Thanks, GIPHY for perfectly explaining what it’s like to be abroad.
