Living Sustainably: A Look Into SusActiv

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

In our generation, sustainability is an important aspect of life that many people often don’t pay much attention to. Some people may not be prioritizing sustainability because they’re not willing enough to give up using certain practices or materials. Others may be skeptical about the overall impact of sustainability probably because they do not believe it will make much of a difference anyway. While a variety of doubts and opinions may circulate around the topic of sustainability, there is no doubt that sustainable practices have brought nothing but positive benefits to the environment we live in. Through the creation of their very own website, SusActiv, CU Boulder students Tracy, Yui, Hayes, and Yashi have been helping to bring sustainability’s positive impact to students’ attention.

SusActiv contains a collection of articles regarding sustainability in the following categories: Lifestyle, Fashion and Beauty, Outdoors, and Certifications. Each of these articles are authored by the site creators themselves, and within the listed categories, they cover related products, brands, and practices that the reader could utilize to further their sustainable lifestyles.

The following are brief overviews of each SusActiv category.

  • Lifestyle

The articles in this category are about the various everyday habits we could pick up to step closer to a sustainable lifestyle. In one of them, Tracy talks through a few ways she incorporates sustainability daily, which include using reusable water bottles, cotton pads, bulk soap, and reusing plastic bags. In another article, she writes about how TikTok influencer Emily Mariko can inspire others by being intentional on fridge space and reducing food waste by turning her leftovers into a healthy meal.

  • Fashion and Beauty

The Fashion and Beauty articles are centered around tips you can do to help the environment, while still keeping it fashionable. The articles have recommended a few sustainable products that could come in handy, such as vegan skincare products and TEKO eco-performance socks.

  • Outdoors

The Outdoors category takes a closer look at any practices or products that could be used for outdoor activities as well as support the environment. Its first article notes several sustainable brands that sell outdoor gear besides Patagonia, including TEKO, Paramo, and La Sportiva.

  • Certifications

Readers can refer to the Certifications category in order to search for sustainable certifications on products. The current certifications listed include OEKO-TEX, GOTS, BPI Compostable, and ZQ Wool.

No matter where you are at in terms of leading a sustainable lifestyle, remember that it is never too late to start now. Tracy, Yui, Hayes, and Yashi are making a positive impact through their dedication to saving the environment by spreading awareness online. We hope you can join the effort by practicing the different sustainable insights they have written about, as well as sharing them with others.
