The weather has gotten colder and if you’re anything like me your routine consists of grabbing a sweater to drown yourself in, a pair of leggings, and those great staple boots you’re finally breaking in. The routine becomes monotonous for those yearning for a bit of self-expression. I’ve cracked the code ladies; the answer is lipstick.

I know the first few times we saturate our lips with a bold color we might wonder how it will mesh with our normal, everyday lives. I know I always love a little extra attention, so let’s amp it up. Lipstick highlights confidence, style, and sheer femininity.

When I asked my favorite fashion guru, Nicole Leblanc, why she loves lipstick it couldn’t have been put more perfectly. “Lipstick isn’t about an occasion, just putting it on can make you feel good. If you’re not in the mood a nude lip is still better than no lip, and color is powerful and can speak to your mood. And a red lip… well that can own a room.”
Tricks of the Trade:

  • A sheer white blouse paired with a deep red lip. (Favorite Red: Diva by MAC)
  • All black, if you can throw in leather detail your bordering pure brilliance, dolled up with a pale pink lip. (Favorite Pink: Snob by MAC)
  • Fall neutrals, like deep green or mauve, paired with a deep plum lip. (Favorite Plum: Plum dandy by MAC)
  • My personal favorite, an everyday nude lip, pairs flawlessly with any outfit and highlights the eyes. (Myth, crème d nude, and lip erase by MAC all work magically)
  • Last but certainly not least, hot pink. If Barbie can do it we can too. On those wild days pair it with a killer leopard print and you’ll rule the world. (Favorite hot pink: Funny Face by NARS)

Kristie Dunnigan is a junior studying business marketing at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She was born in Montana and later moved to the beautiful state of Colorado. Country girl at heart yearning for a big city life, she recently spent 3 months living in NYC interning for Oscar de la Renta as an international and domestic sales intern (and has spent everyday since trying to figure out how to get back to that concrete jungle). It's that city strut and over the top street style fashion that this girl cannot get enough of. She is Vice President of the American Marketing Association Chapter at Boulder, and is currently interning at shopgoldyn.com to fulfill creative needs. When she isn't snowboarding, blogging, or enjoying the amazing friends and family that fill her days, you will probably find this old soul buried in a thrift store or nearest local flea market over indulging in the good life.
Anna is a Sophomore at the University of Colorado at Boulder studying Journalism in the News-Editorial track. She is very involved in her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, where she is curerntly the Vice President of Development. Also within the Greek Community, Anna writes for The Odyssey, a Greek newspaper. With a spare moment, Anna loves capturing the beauty of everyday through photography, embarking on mini adventures, skiing the peaks, and sipping chai. Nothing relaxes her more than tying on her running shoes and exploring the mountain trails and soaking up Colorado's sun. A recent addition to the Her Campus Team, she is excited for what is to come!
