Due to the spread of COVID-19 and the stay-at-home order, many businesses have been forced to close, including nail shops, spas, and hair salons. Women that usually get their hair done at hair salons now have to find a way to do their own hair, at least until the stay-at-home order is lifted. Here are some styles that you can do on your natural hair in the comfort of your own home, without the hassle of going to a salon and paying a stylist.

1. Wigs

Wigs have been proven to be one of the most convenient hairstyles for the natural hair community. Since many people are on a tight budget due to the shut-downs and lay-offs, synthetic wigs are cheap and extremely stylish. Even though synthetic wigs are made from plastic fibers, if you take great care of the wig, it could last for months! However, human-hair wigs last much longer, if taken care of, of course.

2. Crochet braids

Crochet braids are also convenient and inexpensive. If you are skilled in cornrowing and braiding hair, then install should only take about 2-3 hours. Crochet braids are especially versatile; you could install a variety of hair types such as curly, wavy, straight, afro-textured, braids, or twist. The install of crochet braids is extremely simple and easy. However, if you never installed crochet braids before, make sure to watch a few YouTube prior.

3. Passion Twists

Passion twists have been around for a while now, but the popularity of this style is steadily growing. Just like crochet braids, the hair/extensions for passion twists is also inexpensive. As long as you know how to braid, passion twists should be a breeze and take about 2-4 hours to install. Much better than spending all day in a hair salon, right? Passion twists are super cute and can mimic natural hair in twists.

4. Drawstring Ponytail

Definitely top five for convenient natural hair hairstyles. This style is also low-priced (depending on the brand), however, drawstring ponytails aren’t usually a long-term style. You can wear this style during the day, but it must be removed before bed or else you risk damaging your natural hair. To install a ponytail, just brush back your hair while applying your favorite gel and tie your hair back. Then install the ponytail on your slicked-back natural ponytail. This style takes only about 5-10 minutes to install!

5. Rock Your Natural

Embrace your natural curls or coils! Right now is a great time to experiment with your natural hair while social-isolating at home. Natural hair forums and YouTube videos have helped many people learn how to take care of their natural hair. Since people are required to stay home, purchase inexpensive natural hair products online and begin to experiment with these products. If your hair doesn’t come out right the next morning, try something different. Fortunately, the natural hair community is expanding, and many people are learning how to embrace and love their natural hair.
