Although we loved spending time with our home-town friends and family this winter break, there were certainly many things we missed about our Connecticut College home. Here are four campus things that we couldn’t wait to get back to after a month away:

Convenience of campus

Over break, I realized that I definitely take the convenience of campus for granted. Where else will your bedroom, friends, food, classes, sports, and work be all within a 15-minute walking distance? While driving to all these places back home can be fun, because who doesn’t love the opportunity to sing in the car, I missed walking around the little town that is a college campus.

Conn friends and classmates

I love my friends and family at home, but I really did miss seeing my friends here everyday because they’re such a constant in my campus life. Getting back together the last two weeks, sitting at Harris, playing in the snow, and studying together made me feel like I was back around my people who totally understood me and my humor. And with the start of in person classes, I’m excited to see familiar faces around me.

Ice cream

Don’t get me wrong, I obviously missed my friends and classmates, even my actual classes and the whole academic environment. But, I really, really, really discovered that I took my daily ice cream from Harris for granted. Sure, my family usually keeps a pint or two of vanilla–maybe strawberry, if we feel like mixing things up–in the freezer, but it’s not a guarantee, and it’s definitely not the same. Who would have thought I would miss those rather stressful moments of trying to scoop a particularly difficult flavor with people lining up behind you, all their eyes peering into your soul and judging your weak ice-cream-scooping muscles? Certainly not me, but I certainly did.

Coffee Closet

Even though my hometown of New York City has a plethora of coffee shops, nothing beats a midnight milky way from Coffee Closet. Coffee Closet is one of my favorite places to study and eat lunch, and it’s also where I work! I missed my friends coming to visit me during my shifts and chatting with my fellow employees. Over break, I longed to stop in for a late night tea after studying and grab coffee with friends to boost my mood. I am so excited to be back at Coffee Closet!
