Author Spotlight: Bettina Weiss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

This week we decided to do another Author Spotlight featuring one of the freshman writers for HerCampus! Bettina Weiss got involved with HerCampus during high school and has continued this year.  I caught up with Bettina to find out more about her year so far at Conn!

Hometown: Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ
Major: Government
How did you get involved with HerCampus?
When I was a senior in high school, a friend of mine was starting the URochester branch and recommended that I apply to be a high school ambassador. I wrote a few articles about applying to college and senior year. When I found out that Conn was starting a branch I couldn’t resist!

What made you choose Conn and how has your freshman year been so far?
I visited Conn during the spring of my junior year with my dad. It was during a day when Admissions was closed, so he and I walked around and read the self-lead tour aloud. Even without a Conn student talking, I got the feeling that everyone talks about when they know where they want to be. Although it seems silly now, the bridge to the athletic center kind of sold me. As a college athlete, I knew I’d be hanging out there a lot and when I saw how nice the center was I was sure!

What are you looking forward to in the next 3 years?
I am looking forward to learning as much as I can and figuring out what I want to do. Conn offers such a wide variety of classes and I want to take advantage of several departments. I am excited to continue playing field hockey and getting more involved in everything that Conn has to offer.

Do you see yourself going into journalism or publishing in the future?
I definitely enjoy writing and designing online. This summer I am going to be doing a lot of work online with social networking and am hoping that it proves to be as exciting as I think it will be. I have always been interested in publishing and can see a future in that as well.

What else are you involved with on campus?
I play field hockey, write for The College Voice, besides HerCampus of course, and participate in the Kids, Books, and Athletics program.

What’s the best class you have taken this year?

Women & US Politics is the best class I have taken this year. My professor (MaryAnne Borrelli) is awesome and I have learned so much in the last few weeks. The class has changed the way I think about women in the professional world and in general.
Katherine is a senior at Connecticut College majoring in European history and minoring in film studies. She spent her last semester abroad in Rome and loved it, and then interned this summer at Marie Claire magazine in New York City. Katherine is very excited to be joining the Her Campus team!
