This Workshop Will Change Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Last semester, I took the “Best of You” YesPlus workshop, and I have to say that it was pretty life-changing. My experience during the workshop and skills I learned has made me a much more confident and peaceful person. How, you may ask? And where can I get this confidence for myself? Using a combination of meditation, breathing practices, and shared experience, over the course of one weekend, workshop participants learned to unlock an inner peace that I have drawn upon every day.

During the workshop I had the opportunity to get to know fellow students, something I had not anticipated. We shared our experiences and talked about the things in our life that we found difficult: break-ups, tests, job applications, friendships, you name it. We went through many exercises as a group to learn about ourselves and how we deal with a variety of situations. Our instructors taught us an ancient 25-minute daily practice called Sudarshan Kriya, which combines yoga, meditation and breath. Every morning I do this practice and it keeps me calm and centered amidst all the craziness.

The course is based on the profound connection between our breath and our emotions. Every emotion has a corresponding breath pattern and with the help of the breath, we can deal with and even change our emotional state. This workshop is a smooth blend of ancient wisdom, yoga, pranayama (breath control), and meditation, fused with contemporary intellectual exchanges, music and games. And besides being a transformative experience, this workshop is a lot of fun!

If this sounds like it appeals to you the way it appealed to me, the Art of Living Club at Columbia is offering the “BEST OF YOU” workshop from October 5-8. It will be a 20-hour workshop spread out in these 4 days. And believe me when I tell you that this is an opportunity that you don’t want to miss!
