It’s 3am. After a long night, you are ravenous—a feral animal in a concrete jungle. You would do pretty much anything for some late-night french fries or a burger. Luckily, there is no better place than NYC to be a night owl. Columbia students, this includes you. Whether you need a bite to eat or a place to write a procrastinated paper, there are plenty of options!

Get a Midnight Snack

One of the best places to grab a meal is JJ’s Place, located in the lower level of John Jay. With invigorating music and a fast-paced atmosphere, JJ’s is nearly indistinguishable from familiar fast-food favorites. Their french toast, quesadillas, wings, and onion rings are always a hit. At any hour of the day, you are guaranteed to see fellow students bustling around the large seating area. Not to mention, if you have extra meal swipes you can go to JJ’s Express and leave with LaCroix, Coke, cranberry juice, and more.

Koronet Pizza, located past 111th & Broadway, is an all-time favorite of many students. With famous jumbo-slices, this is the place to grab a fresh slice of pizza between 10 AM and 4 AM on weekends (otherwise, 2 AM). Sink your teeth into a vodka slice in the wee hours of the morning. Although slightly off-campus, Koronet is a second-home for Columbia students.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, head to Insomnia Cookies on 111th & Amsterdam Ave. The options range from fresh, warm cookies to refreshing ice cream. If none of these options seem to appease you, delivery services are available and plentiful in NYC. With UberEats, Postmates, or other delivery service apps, the foodie world is at your fingertips. Just sort by “open now,” and you will have access to whatever fills your craving!

Study After Sunset

With your midnight snack in tow, head over to a nearby library to get some schoolwork out of the way. Butler Library is always open, a picturesque place to write that last-midnight paper. The adorned ceilings are a guaranteed source of inspiration. Noise cancellation devices are not needed; trust me, the silence will be deafening.

For those studying at Barnard College, The Milstein Center is a great place to study. With open study spaces for individual or collaborative work, there will be a place for you. Sundays through Thursdays, it is open until 2am!

If you would like to stay-in for the night and study in your dorm, be conscientious of your sleeping roommate(s)! Turn down your devices’ brightness or use a flashlight/dim lamp. Also consider using the lounges and student spaces in many of the dorm buildings.

The next time you feel jittery at night, don’t keep your roommate awake. Instead, grab something to eat and head to one of these highly-revered destinations!
