Peter Bailinson – CC ’16

Name: Peter Bailinson

Year: 2016

School: CC

Major/Concentration: East Asian Languages and Cultures, and maybe a concentration in Economics if I’m up for it.

Hometown: Cumberland, ME

On-campus activities: Currently a representative on Columbia College Student Council, running for VP Communications next year (unopposed). Event Management Associate for Spectator. Associate Editor for the Journal of Politics and Societies.

Off-campus activities: Ambassador for Safe Passage/Camino Seguro (shameless plug, check it out at safepassage.org); exploring NYC, one neighborhood at a time.

Summer plans: Studying Chinese in Beijing! (And figuring out how to afford studying Chinese in Beijing.)

Pet-peeves: Drivers not using turn-signals, people not being friendly towards other people.

Dream job: Movie critic.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, you would need: A friend, a computer with Garage Band, and a lifetime supply of sunscreen.

Every guys needs these three things in his closet: Well-fitting pants, big-boy shoes, retro sweaters.

Your perfect date in 7 words or less: (In no particular order) Spontaneity, serendipity, avocados, truthiness, nostalgia, danger, and snowflakes.

Favorite off-campus location: Target

Favorite thing about NYC: Unlike Maine, there are places open after 9pm.

Favorite class and professor at Columbia: Out of the four I’ve taken, Lit Hum with James Adams.

Spirit animal: According to the Ke$ha website spirit animal quiz, I’d be an owl. I’m more partial to the dolphins.

Dream wife: Rihanna

One thing you want to do before graduating: Find the cash cab (although I’ve recently been told the show was cancelled, so in that case I guess I want to bring the show back).

Top three albums of all time: FutureSex/LoveSounds by JT, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814,  Achtung Baby by U2.

If you could have a super power what would it be and why: The ability to fly because I’m a simple guy.

If you could invite anyone to dinner, you would ask: Socrates.

HamDel decides to name a sandwich after you (what’s it called and what’s in it): “The Nutella.” Self-explanatory.

Elena is a sophomore at Columbia University majoring in English. In her free time, she writes for Her Campus and news for Spectator. She loves New York and her friends.
