Patterns are tricky. Patterned pants? Well first of all, when did this become a thing? I mean really. But point is…even trickier. And, if you haven’t noticed, they’re a pretty big trend this season. We have to admit though; we’re kind of liking it. And we’ve got some tips to make it work. The key to pulling of this look is balance. Bright print? Tone it down with some neutrals up top. Big print? Muted tones, smaller prints (yes, really) or solids will work best. Big, bright print? First off, props. Second…do we even have to say it? The JCrew catalogue’s got you covered – look-book and all. Hannah Traulsen, BC ’15, goes for a pair of printed black and white high-wasted parachute pants. She takes our advice and pairs the bold look with a distressed dark-grey T and a perfectly-basic, and classic, pair of off-white tennis shoes. And no, that is not a giant encyclopedia from the rare books section of Butler in her well-manicured hands. It’s her computer case. It’s called a “Book-Book” – clever, we know – and we think its pretty cool.
