Given the stress of these unprecedented times we are currently living in, we all deserve to spend some time with our dear friend Netflix as a means of escaping our realities. Even if just for a short period of time, logging some much needed hours in front of the TV can give us the relaxation that we all need. Whether you find yourself in the mood for a dark and twisted timepiece, a frivolous reality tv show, or a profound documentary, I have it all covered for you.
As an expert on the genre, I can wholeheartedly announce that Netflix has once again dominated at delivering the reality television show content we all love. “Selling Sunset” is Netflix’s new smash hit reality show that comes to the screen like if HGTV’s “House Hunters” and Bravo’s “Real Housewives” came together and had a baby. Pardon that analogy, but it really is the only way to describe this show. The show follows closely along to the personal and professional lives of the employees at a top tier real estate brokerage firm, The Oppenheim Group. The women working in the office fight to sell the biggest and boujiest houses in West Hollywood under the watchful eye of their bosses, Jason and Brett Oppenhiem. In addition to the fun of viewing multimillion-dollar mansions in the hills of Los Angeles, this show also features plenty of drama about the cast members’ lives to keep you invested. I am certainly not ashamed to say I finished this in one sitting.
“The Social Dilemma” dives deep into the world of social networking and the dangerous side effects that come with it. In previous years we have all become more aware of the control Facebook and other social media platforms have; however, this documentary proves that there is still so much to learn. Whether it be information you want to hear or not, this documentary’s message has never been more relevant. This film serves as a P.S.A to us all that we must be aware of what we are getting ourselves into when we log on.
For fans of shows like “American Horror Story” and “Scream Queens,” the new Netflix series “Ratched” is perfect for you. Adapted from the famous novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest , this show follows the story of Mildred Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson, and her experience working with an infamous serial killer in a mental institution. If you’re like me and enjoy a dark story before bedtime, then this show is the one for you. Let this be my warning to you that this show is not for the faint of heart.
I hope my suggestions lead you to an enjoyable binge session and remember: you deserve it!
