The Gift Giving Guide for the Colgate Procrastinator

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

Along with the stress of next week’s finals, comes the stress of holiday gift giving.  Facebook and twitter may be distracting, but online shopping is definitely the most dangerous.  Every day the websites you bookmarked a while ago now stare at you from your toolbar.  They’re waiting anxiously for you to make a wish list, add something to your shopping cart, and complete the order ASAP.  Don’t worry, you still have some time before Christmas, but if you feel like procrastinating, why not start browsing for your holiday gifts? It’s productive procrastination, if that’s possible.
You may even be stressing about who you give a gift to this year.  Nowadays it seems like Christmas gifts are only given to family members because what are you going to do, get gifts for all your housemates, friends, and sorority sisters? That would be a bit ridiculous.  And what if a friend gives a gift to you and you totally forgot to put him/her on your list?  To figure out who to give gifts to outside of your family, try making a checklist.  Think of the people who you think most about, talk to frequently, or have helped you when you needed them most.   More importantly, don’t forget that the holiday season is about giving not receiving; so don’t be upset when you find out that you spent 30 dollars on a gift for a friend who didn’t give you anything.  Also, if you can’t afford to give as many gifts as you’d like, try to give small, cheaper gifts.  Thoughtful gifts are much more meaningful and useful than expensive ones!  Here’s a guide based on personality to help jumpstart your holiday gift brainstorming. Now back to work..

For her:

–       Ultimate host Mom: Does she love the kitchen?  Give her a cookbook like Everyday Italian by Giada De Laurentiis or a nice apron
–       Best dressed best friend and/or sister: A classy TB wristlet should get you on her good side.
–       Friend that has everything: You have to make this gift unique/random! (If she’s sporty try these zip headphones that don’t tangle when you’re working out!) Does she go to Colgate? What about Kiehl’s hand cream to combat harsh, dry skin from the winter.
–       World traveler: Is she going abroad? Get her a passport case or cosmetics case so she can travel in style!
–       Your girlfriend (these are on my list for Santa..yes he still wants a wish list):  The Victoria’s Secret NFL or MLB line has cute tees and yoga pants that rep your home team!

For him:
–       Style challenged boyfriend: TryUGG slippers(ok so I know I bashed UGGs in my last article but Tom Brady runs the men’s campaign so of course I love the loafers..slippers only though!), or Nixon headphones
–       The outdoorsman:  North Face has great winter gloves
–       Dad with the biggest sweet tooth that you never get to have any of your mom’s oatmeal cookies (not bitter or anything): Williams Sonoma Peppermint Bark: the tastiest holiday treat
–       The athlete: Your sports guy should love a throwback hat or tee from the authentic sports apparel company Mitchell & Ness.
–       The gift for every/any guy: Try the gourmet gift club(Amazingclubs.com).  You pick one of their 38 clubs and they will ship your guy whatever you choose such as beers, cookies, hot sauces, or chocolate. You can send your guy a basket for 3 months for only $100!

·      On a budget: What about nail polish, DD gift card, book from the bookstore, DVDs, or even a handmade card?
