Prepare to Ring in the New Year!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colby chapter.

Now that we’ve made it to December it’s that time again when we start planning for holiday parties and thinking about how we want to wrap up the year.  New Years Eve is a great time to celebrate the year, check off any last-minute goals, and to break out that amazing outfit you’ve been saving!  Here are a couple ideas on how to make the most of your evening before the ball drops this year.

Set fun plans for yourself this New Years Eve, like attending (or throwing!) a big party or choosing a new travel destination.  Have a low-key day so you can let loose at night and have lots of energy.  Maybe spend some quality time with your close friends or finish an easy project you’ve been putting off all year.  Try not to over-plan your night though; new years should be about seizing the moment!  This carefree attitude could even land you with a midnight kiss, so don’t set too many standards for your night.  Leave your hesitations aside and embrace the spontaneous spirit of the New Year.  If you open up and see where the night takes you the adventures that result may surprise you!

Just as important as your new years eve plans is the outfit your going to wear – it will be your last opportunity in 2011 to make a statement so dress to impress!  There are so many ways to pull off great holiday style, so if one of these ideas doesn’t appeal to you try a different one.  First, you could embrace the new years theme with a sequined piece.  And if an all-over sequins dress isn’t your thing (and really why wouldn’t it be) then a sparkly clutch or jewelry does the trick too!  You could also try the color accent trend by pairing a little black or red dress with a colorful accessory.  Neon earrings, bright pumps, or vibrant nails are just a few ideas-remember there are no limits!  I’m also a huge fan of the animal print trend, so wear that leopard dress or purse for a fun and trendy look.  Also try pairing animal print with black and gold accessories to tie the look together.  Lace
pieces or detailing are also a chic, yet fun, way to dress up for the occasion, and embellishments like studs on heels or a bag pair well with almost anything.  Don’t be afraid to add a little sparkle to your makeup palette either – try metallic eye shadow or even silver liner.  Or keep it simple with a natural glow and big lashes and let your outfit get all the attention.

With your outfit and plans laid out, all you have left to do for the coming New Year is think about your resolution!  I like to set a few small (and realistic) resolutions so it is easier to keep them and I can actually say I accomplished my resolution.
By making little changes in certain areas of your life and sticking with them for a few weeks, they will eventually become habit and you won’t have to put in any work to reach your goal!  Wishing everyone a happy New Year and fun holiday season – get excited for 2012!
