Graduation: Quick Tips Before Seniors Say Farewell

Graduation is just around the corner and it’s amazing how the time flew by! After years of hard work, all-nighters, and an insane amount of caffeine, seniors are finally getting what they deserve. Soon there will be graduation parties, celebrations, and plans being made for the future. Soon, people are going to find their paths through life. It all seems a bit overwhelming, but I have a couple of tips that will hopefully ease the nerves and prepare seniors for a new perspective of the world.

Follow Your Passion!

How would anyone describe a passion? Is it simply something you enjoy, or does it reflect something more? I think you should have the chance to interpret what a passion means to you. After college, people are always driven to career paths that provide them with the most money. Comfortability with finances is usually what is taught to be the ideal picture of the American dream. I want to remind you that you are living your own life! You should be doing something that you love and care about while making money. A career shouldn’t be something you dread; it’s something that should encourage you to move forward in life! Along with careers, think about people you want to be around and who make you happy. Life shouldn’t be a series of events that settle in your life to make it stagnant. So, before you think about your future, take a step back and remember what makes you happy and hopeful for a better tomorrow.

Make Connections!

Although we all enjoy our alone time and personal space, we have to remember that it’s important to have connections! I’m not saying to go out and befriend every single person in your daily life, but I do think that you should remind yourself of who you may already have. Friends, family, or even a coworker who has amazing listening skills are connections that could help us get further in life. A lot of times, people tend to compartmentalize feelings and thoughts because they feel alone in situations. I am here to tell you that graduating college does not mean the end of connections! You are not alone! There are people who are happy to be in your corner and help you along the journey of life. Making connections helps you achieve more and provides you with the comfort of confiding in someone that could help you see the best version of yourself.

Try New Things!

We talked a lot about remembering things, but let’s not forget about trying to make new memories! There is so much of the world to see and so many things to learn! Life is too short to solely worry about the negatives in life. When the graduation ceremonies and parties end, take some time to experience new things before diving deep into the next phase of your life. Don’t let fear talk you out of doing the things you’ve always wanted to do. I hate to say it, but you only live once. You deserve to go on adventures or try new foods to create memories that will last a lifetime. Live life to the fullest so that you will never have to wonder, “What If?”

Stay True To Yourself!

Saving the best for last. I think that staying true to yourself is the hardest thing to do in life; which is why I think that it is the most important. Everyone has influences in life that kind of alter the way we see things. Whether that is the environment, family, or friends, you have to remember that you are your own person. You make the decisions and you have to live with what comes after making them. Sometimes we can get lost in who we truly want to be when we are at a job, in a relationship, or just simply getting by. My advice? Create something that, no matter what, reminds you of who you are and who you want to be. A mantra, a picture, a song, or even a symbol could be the perfect description of who you see yourself as. Use this as a way to keep moving forward in a positive direction and thrive in every step you take.

As I said, graduation is around the corner. How are you going to face the future? It is all depending on you and what you want to do with your life. Don’t let the traditional perspectives of life weigh you down and keep you from reaching your goals. Remember how far you have come and use that as motivation to get you through each day. I know it can be overwhelming, but you have to believe that you deserve every second of graduation. You have control over your life and remember that you’re never alone.
