Five Things to Organize for Ultimate Satisfaction

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

Looking to feel productive today? Maybe just need something to do? Take some time to clean out and clean up— your future self will be so grateful. Here are some of my favorite unconventional things to organize, both digital and tangible. Happy cleaning!

Instagram & Tiktok Favorites Folder

If you save a ridiculous amount of posts to your favorites folder and then proceed to never touch them ever again, we’re in the same boat. Organize those folders! Not only will it lift an invisible weight off your shoulders, but now you’ll be able to go back and find the exact post you’re searching for. I suggest organizing using folder titles like “outfit inspo,” “crafts,” and “places to go”; these are just a few of mine on TikTok. This is also so helpful if you save a lot of gift ideas! When the holiday season comes around, you will have all of your potential presents organized in one folder.

Closet Clothes

Throwing clothes on hangers and shoving them on the rack is a pretty efficient strategy, but if you’re wanting to streamline your closet organization process, try organizing clothes based on one of the three C’s: color, category, or coverage. Color is most helpful if you wear all of your clothes equally, however I tend to lean towards category or coverage. For category, organize your clothes into groups like casual and formal wear, so that you can easily view all of your options based on the occasion. My personal favorite, coverage, is entirely organized based on how much or little skin the piece shows. So, from left to right, you may have jackets, sweaters, long sleeve shirts, t-shirts, and then crop tops.

Phone Notes App

For those looking to feel productive without leaving your bed, this is my top pick. Leaving shopping lists, random thoughts, and cryptic poetry to sit and digitally rot is unfortunately very easy. Start your reorganization process by creating four or five folders for all those different note categories, then file or delete accordingly. You’ll never realize how desperately your notes app needed to be organized until you do it, I swear.

The dreaded junk drawer

This suggestion is less unconventional, but I had to include it because everyone has one. The junk drawer. Such a scary thing to tackle, I know. However, I recently saw a TikTok that suggested an effective strategy for cleaning the dreaded drawer: only keep what you can remember. Before opening the drawer, write down every item you can remember from the drawer, and throw out what you forgot to include. The idea here is that if you can’t recall an item, it must not be that important, so you may as well chuck it. Definitely something worth trying.

Tomorrow’s Schedule

A bit more abstract, but arguably the most impressive feat on this list. Take 15 minutes to plan out a schedule for yourself tomorrow! Having a list of all the things you want to accomplish can help you feel more prepared and ready to tackle your tasks for the day. For maximum productivity, try creating one or two-hour time blocks with a couple things you want to get done in each. Overall, I find it’s easier to pace yourself when you spread out the tasks rather than having one giant list. Double points if you include organizing something on your schedule!
