5 Foreign Slang College Students Need to Know

1. Macca’s (Mac- ahs)

Australian English. Short for McDonald’s. It saves the breath you need to eat a quarter pounder with. 

“We’re headed to Macca’s, want to come with?”

2. 520 (Er Wu Bai 二五百)

Chinese. It sounds similar to the Chinese phrase for “I love you” or  我爱你. This has lead to Chinese people abbreviating the phrase with the numbers 520.

3. Fighting! 

English word used in Korea. It is used to offer encouragement, similar to “Do your best!” “Keep at it!” “Good luck!” 

4. Aguas (ah-g-wahs)

Mexican Spanish. Literally meaning “water”, it’s used to let people know, look out for be careful of something. 

5. Mager(mah-ger)

Indonesian. An abreviation for two Indonesian words. It now is used to describe the state of being too lazy to move.
