New York Fashion Week Spring 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

Yes it’s February! It means we’re officially allowed to get excited for spring (although we’re not even close to it yet), and we can stuff endless amount of chocolates in our faces and call it Valentine’s Day. But above all, February is when the New York Fashion week finally comes to town. Designers from all over the world assembled in Manhattan last week and participated in one of the most renowned fashion shows in the entire world, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. From February 6th to the 13th, about one hundred different designers and clothing lines walked down the famous runway receiving millions of applauses and critiques.

Name any famous designer you know and his or her line just walked on that runway last week. From Michael Kors to Marc Jacobs, these designers showcased their new innovative spring collections at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion week and once again took the world by surprise. Fashion is constantly growing and changing, and these designers just opened new doors to more creative and daring fashion trends for this coming spring and summer. Avant-Garde is still an ongoing trend, and many designers incorporated new creative designs into their collections. Many architectural designs and technological ideas were sources of inspirations for many designers’ spring collections. While some clothes were made specifically for runway only, others looked perfectly “normal” and practical in everyday life.

While the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week focuses a lot on the actual fashion show and the new collections that the designers present to the public, it also brings a lot of attention to the celebrities who attend the fashion week as well. From Colin Farrell, Joe Jonas and Carrie Underwood to Anna Kendrick, Paris Hilton, Lucy Liu and Chelsea Clinton, the actors and singers themselves showed off their own sense of style and fashion during the fashion week.

The New York Fashion Week was again a huge success, and we hope to see how these new collections and designs will change our fashion trend in the coming months.
