Alexandra Halberstadt: Your Campus Celeb!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

Edgy, compassionate, and hard working  are just three words to describe Miss Alexandra Halberstadt. Alexandra is a freshman double majoring in Biology and Psychology. She is also a member of the Science and Humanities Scholars program. Needless to say, Alexandra really likes science. When asked why, she responded that science is simply interesting. She loves the real world application and appreciates knowing exactly what is going on inside the human body. Her eyes lit up when she told me about her very old, very southern, science teacher who ignited her passion for biology.

Aside from school work, Alexandra possess an undeniable love and an incredible talent for stage managing. She has taken CMU’s Scotch ‘n’ Soda Theatre troupe by storm. Within the first weeks of school she was chosen to be the assistant stage manager in the recent production of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Her hard work paid off and now Alexandra is the head stage manager for the upcoming December slot show, Bang Bang Banality.

Last year she took the initiative to personally hand write letters to Broadway stage managers asking for a chance to shadow them. They responded, and last spring Alexandra headed up to New York City where she shadowed professional stage managers for the Broadway shows Jersey Boys, Wicked, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. She also got to talk to the stage managers of Phantom of the Opera, Matilda, and Book of Mormon.

Alexandra loves stage managing because she enjoys seeing the whole process of putting together a show. She also loves the relationships she builds with the production team and the actors. She likes the responsibility of scheduling rehearsals, making sure everyone maintains solid communication, and running the cues during a show.

Alexandra was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. A fun fact about her is she has an identical twin sister named Brittany.

I am currently senior majoring in Business Administration and Statistics with a track in Finance at Carnegie Mellon University. Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Enid Blyton and J.K Rowling are a few of my favorite authors. I also love watching British TV shows (Sherlock is my favorite!). On campus, I am involved in several activities, including Carnegie Mellon Business Association and Smart Woman Securities.
