In Pittsburgh, the weather gets real cold real quick, so we’ve got a limited amount of time to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Take advantage of the scariest month of the year to get your friends together and enjoy the autumn festivities while you can. Here are five fun suggestions to make the most of this October!
1. Apple picking
Enjoy the crisp autumn air while it lasts with a trip to the apple orchard. There’s many farms in the Pittsburgh area, and Soergel’s Orchards is only twenty minutes away in Wexford, PA. Soergel’s also features a market, pumpkin patch, and general store for the full farm experience!
2. Haunted House
For those of you who love a good scare, a haunted house visit is a must. With the terrifying and nationally ranked Scarehouse less than twenty minutes away, there’s no excuse not to go get scared out of your pants!
3. Pumpkin Carving
No Halloween is complete without carving up a pumpkin! With plenty of tutorials ranging from the basic jack-o-lantern to the nearly impossible, you’re sure to find a design you can pull off, or at least try to. Pumpkins are easy to find at the closest Giant Eagle, or you can always pick your own!
4. Binge Watch Scary Movies
It’s not October unless you watch at least one scary movie. Or five in a row. Get some friends and Pittsburgh Popcorn together and hit up Netflix for the scariest movies you can find. You can check out this article for some frightening suggestions, but if horror really isn’t your thing, there’s always Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus!
5. Phantom Fright Nights at Kennywood
Kennywood is a Pittsburgh classic, and it only gets better during October. This year is the 13th anniversary of the park’s legendary Fright Nights, so prepare to be scared like never before!
