Why our Girlfriends are Really our Soul Mates

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

Girls our age are out there looking for THE ONE. The guy that will complete their life, make them whole and shower them with ponies, glitter, puppies, and diamonds. While that’s a nice idea, have we ever stopped to think that maybe we had met our soulmate? The one we can call when we are sad, the one who will be there to pick us up when we fall or the one who will laugh with you until you cry. That person is your best friend.

Carrie Bradshaw famously said: “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” And I couldn’t agree more. It is rare in our lives that we can find another female whom we can tolerate long enough to build a bond with. She is there for your ups and downs and has seen you at your highest highs, lowest lows and loves you anyway. I mean after all we don’t call our boyfriends when we have girl drama. They could care less. We call our girlfriends about boy drama. We over analyze the mystery of the males and decipher our next moves. With our best friends, it’s effortless. We often times don’t even have to speak words for them to know how we are feeling. With our boyfriends they might never pick up on this weird thing called “emotions”.

Now I’m not shutting out the idea that there is one guy out there made for every girl. Because I truly believe that. But maybe that guy, like Carrie Bradshaw said, is supposed to be the fun added to your life. He is the one who comes into your life and is the compliment to your existence not the bane of it.  Your girlfriends are the soul to your life. They are there with you every step when you meet THE ONE (and every other boy leading up to him).  They will laugh with you when you come home and tell them how you tripped out of his car on your first date. Cry with you when he hurts your feelings and be standing right up there with you when you marry him. Life’s greatest moments begin and end with our girlfriends, enjoy them xoxo
