5 Reasons To Be Happy That You’re Single Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

It’s times like the Winter season where we’re feeling annoyingly single. It’s getting cold so naturally being a girl we want someone to cuddle with and we’re constantly surrounded by “winter-wonderland” activities that we’re just dying to have a boy to do them with. But no need to dwell on being alone, we’ve got reasons to celebrate being independent rather than spend our time wishing our Facebook status would change from “Single” to “In A Relationship.”

5.) Being able to veg without being insecure about your weight

This seems crazy, but it makes sense. No girl wants to do anything to make her guy find her less attractive than when they first started dating. It’s no secret that with the holidays behind us, no-so-good-for-your hips dishes and desserts, and with that often comes a bit of weight gain. When you’re single, that’s just something less that you don’t have to worry about! Who cares if you gain a few pounds from all of the delicious holiday foods? New Years Resolutions are for getting back to hitting the gym hard come the new year to shed the little pounds you gained from the holidays!

4.) No boyfriend to buy for, more money for shoes

When we’re in a relationship, we obviously want to spoil our guy (mostly to ensure we’ll get spoiled by him in return…oops) and with spoiling him comes dishing out a lot of your own money. Sometimes we may find ourselves wishing we had someone to spoil us, but who knows you better and what you to be spoiled with more than yourself? Take that money and buy that new bag you’ve wanted or those shoes you’ve had your eye on for! In all honesty, a man’s taste in everything we like normally isn’t nearly up to par with what we want. So instead of spending money on Valentine’s Day buy yourself a concert ticket or a dress you’ve been dying to have.

3.) Being able to do whatever you want when it comes to partying.

With being back at school from break comes parties and dressing up. When you’re single, you don’t need to worry about angering your boyfriend with your choice of outfit or going to a party without him. Just think, if you’re tied down, all the fun, conversations, and ‘growing up’ we have to do will all be lost.

2.) Total avoidance of awkward family gatherings

While some girlfriends might find this enjoyable, many girlfriends find gatherings with the parents stressful. The last thing any girl wants is for their boyfriend’s family to not think she’s the best girl possible to date their son. When you’re single, you totally avoid the unnecessary stress of these situations! Less time with a boyfriend’s family means more time with you’re family, and what’s better than that?

1.) Friends are a lifetime, boyfriends are temporary

One of the reasons we’re finding ourselves being down about being single especially this time of year is because we just want to engage in all of our college experiences with a boyfriend. Last time we checked, no one said that you need a boyfriend to go apple picking or ice skating. While these seem like adorably cute things to do with a boy, these activities are just as fun when you do them with your friends! Movies nights on cold nights spent drinking hot chocolate and making cookies with your friends and sisters is WAY better than spending them with just one boy. Never forget, friends are a lifetime and boyfriends are just temporary. When you’re single, that leaves just that much more time you can spend with your best friends to make memories and build those friendships that’ll last forever.
