This Trick Will Give You The Best Hair Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

All my life I have had predominantly greasy hair. What can I say?I just produce a copious amount of oil in my scalp. Because of this, I have often avoided conditioner like the plague because it tends to weigh my hair down and make it even greasier.

However this summer I noticed that even though my hair would get greasy, it still had a lot of breakage, meaning it was still dry.

I was at a loss, conditioner was the solution to one problem but the instigator of another. Then I saw this trick online where you apply conditioner first in the shower, let it sit, then wash it out with shampoo.

This works because the conditioner has a chance to do its job of moisturizing your hair, and then you wash out any of the excess product!

As soon as I saw it I knew I had to try it for myself. I’ll be honest I was incredibly skeptical at first. It seemed counterintuitive, like it would ruin all the work the conditioner just did. Doubts aside I decided to go ahead and try it.

Bonus tip if you are trying this experiment, use hot water as you apply the conditioner and then wash your hair with shampoo, but switch to cold water when you rinse the shampoo out. Doing this allows your hair to better receive the moisture of the conditioner, then lock it in. Plus rinsing with cold water decreases frizz and increases shine!

Even in the shower I could tell it had done a lot! As I washed the conditioner out my hair still felt really silky and soft. That night when I went to bed was going to be the real test though as that’s when my hair tends to get the grossest.

I was shocked when I looked in the mirror in the morning, my hair looked great! Not a grease slick in sight and it was super soft still.

I now live by this trick and recommend it to all my friends. This simple switch has made my hair so much stronger and healthier without all the extra weight of left in conditioner! I wish I had tried this sooner for sure, it is my absolute best piece of hair advice. I can’t recommend it enough!
