Most Genuine and Most Unhinged Greek Rank Ratings of Fraternities at the University of Cincinnati

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

Greek informal recruitment – or COB, continuous open bidding – is upon us, bearcats. If you’re curious to see what all the hype (or lack thereof) is about, here are some of the most genuine and unhinged ratings we found on the notorious Greek Rank site to paint a more colorful picture of the University of Cincinnati’s fraternity life.

1. Alpha Chi Rho – ΑΧΡ

Rating: 5.0

“Was a pledge and now am an active brother so I’m biased obviously. I won’t say we are the best fraternity but I’m willing to say we are the most friendly. We have lots of diversity of interests, very few of my brothers are what you would think of when you think of a frat boy, but they don’t even act majorly in the bad way people think of frats. We have lots of fun and are getting more and more active on campus. We are a relatively new fraternity only starting 5 years ago compared to some that have been on campus 100 years. If you have any questions, contact our new rush chair and he’ll answer anything.”

“House always looks like a mess. One time when I was walking past them, they threw a chair off their balcony into the street and almost hit me. Bottom of the bottom tier. Heard they were voting to lose their house too.”

2. Beta Theta Pi – ΒΘΠ

Rating: 4.4

“I am very confused and even a little disturbed that other reviews were ranking Beta Theta Pi so low. This is an amazing fraternity at the University of Cincinnati, unlike some of the other ones. Very respectable nice guys that know how to have fun and work hard in the classroom. Easily the most diverse fraternity in Cincinnati. If you do not like this fraternity then you are talking to the wrong guys.”

“Talked to a couple of their guys. They couldn’t stop mentioning how ‘awesome’ their house was and how ‘great’ it was that they could afford a personal chef. Cool, I guess? Is that what really matters to you guys? Having all that money? If that’s the case, I definitely know the organization I don’t want to join… Thanks anyways though.”

3. Delta Tau Delta – ΔΤΔ

Rating: 4.7

“So, if you look at the ratings, I have to laugh. I’m a legacy of another fraternity and If I was not, I’d be a Delt. Great guys, amazing parties, they know when to buckle down and study just all around the best fraternity on a campus that does not take Greek Life seriously. My dad told me the only other fraternity he would be ok with me joining was the Delts… I’d have anyone looking into Greek life give them a serious look… I’d have to say any negative comments on here are not worth addressing. These guys are good men… No fraternity is right for everyone… Be the best you can be and choose wisely as with anything in life.”

“Only reason they’re partially relevant is because of their decent house and location. Other than that, nothing about them stands out. I heard some of them at a philanthropy event say they wanted to leave early and are here because they had to be. Not giving towards the community, if it doesn’t benefit them, it’s not worth it type of unit. Apart of the Greek community I still know nothing about this house. Hopefully they rise up, cheers.”

4. Lambda Chi Alpha – ΛΧΑ

Rating: 4.2

By: ucman

Posted: Oct. 1, 2018

“Lambda Chi Alpha is a cool fraternity that seems to be on the uphill. In past years they have been nobody’s really, but this past year I have been to multiple of their parties and events. They came up to me during orientation and invited me to play frisbee, and I think it was cool they were putting themselves out there. I ended up picking another fraternity because my dad is a UC legacy of it, but it was definitely a second choice. Would recommend checking them out or even just going to a party.”

“Was walking down the alley with my girls and there is a group of guys standing outside their house. Tell us to come inside to their ‘party.’ Come inside and there is nobody and no music playing. Uhhhh creepy.”

5. Phi Kappa Tau – ΦΚΤ

“This chapter is full of amazing and friendly men. They know how to throw a great party while keeping everyone safe. The boys are so cute and make sure they introduce themselves to everyone who walks through the door. Definitely a smaller frat but well worth your time.”

“This chapter has a lot of outgoing/social members in it, but last year they threw way too many parties. I do not see them really participating in the community very often. I think their house has great potential due to the location, but they need to do a better job at keeping it clean. It was kind of dirty the last time I went to a party.”

6. Phi Sigma Kappa – ΦΣΚ

Rating: 4.2

“I’m the first alumnus of this chapter. We charted my senior year, a month before graduation. It’s been six years now, and I’ve gotten to watch them grow and I get to participate every once in a while. They’ve done a great job carrying on the work we did as undergrads to start the chapter. They could probably work on their visibility on campus. Having a house is great, but there’s so much more you can do. But the chapter is healthy, and all the brothers get along and genuinely care for each other. That’s all a guy can ask for. Wear PSK with pride! Damn Proud!”

“These guys aren’t even close to being a top their fraternity on campus. They don’t have an actual house on campus and the only party I went to of theirs someone pulled out a gun on the bouncers. I am an uber driver on campus and one time a bunch of brothers threw up in the back of my car and never paid for it.”

7. Pi Kappa Alpha – ΠΚΑ

“From the most unbiased lens possible, I would probably call Pike the top house at UC. They’re the biggest, best grades, girls love them, solid house, great socials, and fairly good looking and athletic. That being said, they’re not very diverse and not very welcoming to outsiders. Some of the guys are real stand up gents but some are kinda rude and like characters out of animal house. Still worth a look for any man looking to rush though.”

“Pike is just not a fun frat… It 100% did NOT feel like a ‘frat party’ after attending their house tonight; it felt like there were only 10 people there, the lights were on, and the music couldn’t even be heard by an ant. If you’re looking to party and dance and have a great time, this is NOT the frat for you. You’ll only be disappointed. If I could rate Pike on a scale from 1-10, I would give it a -2. Again, it just wasn’t fun so don’t get your hopes up if you go to one of their frat parties!”

8. Sigma Alpha Epsilon – ΣΑΕ

Rating: 4.5

“SAE has continued to be one of, if not the, best fraternity at UC. From what I’ve seen they have the dreamiest and most caring gentleman I’ve encountered in my two years at this college. Not to mention this fraternity is always going to throw the best party a frat can offer and make sure you’re okay and not blacking out throughout the night. It also helps that they have the best house on campus and other fraternities always try to talk down on them, while SAE just minds their own business and retains the top. Well done boys, I love you all ❤️”

“Typical frat, typical dudes. Half of them don’t even know who’s a brother and who isn’t. Give somebody else a turn on top. Your glory days are over for a hot sec.”

9. Sigma Chi – ΣΧ

“These guys are awesome. I think they’re arguably the best chapter on campus. Their guys are involved all over campus and make meaningful impacts in the community. I’m not in Greek life and it’s probably too late to join, but I’d probably make these guys my first rushing option if I had the chance.”

“Gonna be honest with you, they’re not super welcoming. Rush Events they didn’t go up to potentials to really introduce themselves to you. Rush wasn’t anything crazy, but it felt like they didn’t care about the people rushing. It was hard to just walk up to someone and really have a conversation with them. Going to other fraternities, they were at least welcoming and came to you to talk to you. Also, I heard they tend to delete Greek rank posts if they’re not happy with what’s being said. So more than likely this will be deleted from them in the next couple days. Overall, they throw good parties but their respect to potentials and people they don’t know is below average.”

10. Sigma Phi Epsilon – ΣΦΕ

“This chapter was certainly top tier back in 2017 and 2018. They threw great socials with surrounding sororities and were super active in the community. Since then, they have seemingly taken the back seat while serving a lengthy suspension from the university so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back this coming Fall. Some have mentioned there are external individuals filling the beds/rooms in the house. When I rushed, I wasn’t made aware of a philanthropy but every single tailgate at the annex house was mandatory.”

11. Sigma Tau Gamma – ΣΤΓ

“Never seen them on campus, their house looks more like a serial killer’s house. Lots of better houses to rush here like Sigma Chi, Pike and Sig Ep. Don’t think I have ever seen them or one of their brothers.”

12. Theta Chi – ΘΧ

“Super great group of guys, as like every fraternity they have their jocks and small group of not so popular guys. Overall love going to their house because you don’t feel pressured into anything like most frats on campus.”

“Theta Chi’s Parties are all in the basement. If you’re above 6-foot good luck standing in there. The basement is a typical Clifton beater basement. It gets way too hot, and the house overall is way too small. Self-rankers by the way, PC [pledge class] ‘20 looking weak.”
