As baseball teams heat up in the playoffs, fans are getting excited about the special postseason atmosphere: the extra-inning games, the rally towels, and the champagne parties. But non-baseball fans can enjoy the thrills too; you don’t need to know ERAs or batting average statistics to enjoy the game.

Here are five reasons why girls should get into baseball:

1. Let’s just get the obvious out of the way: baseball players are beautiful. From the war paint under their eyes, to the sunglasses, bubble gum, and perfectly tight pants, it’s hard to find a player who isn’t good-looking. Who wouldn’t want to attend a game and watch at least 18 beautiful men for three hours?

2. Christmas is every day during the months of April through October, as the gift shops – although slightly overpriced – provide the best outfits and accessories to wear to a game. Jerseys, pajama shorts, knee-high socks, sweatshirts, scarves – even Victoria’s Secret has its own baseball line. So once you have the cute clothes, you might as well attend the game as well.

3. Signage is encouraged in baseball stadiums – the more cringe-worthy puns the better. I am a San Francisco Giants fan (I realize I live in enemy territory) and my favorite player is Buster Posey, who is a catcher. A few years ago, I made a sign that said, “Buster, you’ve caught my heart,” and added a picture of him in his squatting position with a heart in front of his glove. The cheesy signs allow for some creativity, and they’re fun to hold up between innings.

4. In my opinion, there is no better date than a baseball game. The game’s slow-pace means you can chat between batters and innings, sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” together, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get caught on the Kiss Cam on the jumbo screen.

5. Everything tastes better in a baseball stadium. It’s like the difference between SpongeBob macaroni and cheese and regular macaroni – no one knows why SpongeBob is significantly better. It just is. Baseball hot dogs are just superior, and whether you combine them with peanuts, a frozen lemonade, or a churro, you can’t go wrong.

6. Baseball brings you closer to people; especially during the postseason, there is always something to talk about. My family had season tickets in 2012, when the Giants won the World Series, and I went to games with everyone in my family and a lot of my friends. Whether you both can appreciate baseball or not, being in an atmosphere of cheering, dedicated fans, all rooting for a team that plays together like a family can bring anybody closer together.
