A Simple DIY Galentine’s Day Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

The single most important holiday that celebrates love is just around the corner; and no I’m not talking about Valentine’s Day, I’m talking about “Galentine’s Day!” The holiday where you celebrate your closest friendships with your best gal pals, your “ride or dies,” as some may say. This is a guide to help you celebrate the strong women in your life that you call your friends in a way that Leslie Knope would approve of.

Step 1: Assemble a list of the women in your life you want to celebrate the occasion with. Make sure that this is at least a week before February 14th, which gives your gals some time to clear their busy schedules.

Step 2: If you want to go full-frontal-Leslie Knope make sure you create personalized invitations for each friend. These should be written in the manner that Leslie Knope compliments Ann Perkins. Always feature a motivational quote that highlights that gal’s best qualities!

Step 3: Once you have a confirmed guest list put all the names in a hat or bag and have everyone draw a name. The name of the person they draw will be the person they create a Galentine’s Day gift for in the style of Leslie Knope. The one requirement is the gift be home made and must feature the recipient’s face on it.

Step 4: Confirm a party location, preferably somewhere that serves breakfast but if you want a more relaxed get together have it at someone’s house but they must serve waffles!

Step 5: As you assume position as the best hostess in the world, do what Leslie Knope would do and write a note for each attendee describing the history of your friendship and what it means to you. Bonus points if you write each one as a sonnet!

Step 6: You did it! You put together the most heart felt, Leslie Knope worthy Galentine’s Day Party ever. Go enjoy!

Bonus – Gift Ideas:

  • Bake some cookies or brownies and package them in a box decorated with your friend’s face all over it!
  • Create a collage of you and your friend’s best memories together.
  • Take a mason jar and cover it with pictures of your friend’s face and things they like. Write a bunch of Leslie Knope worthy quotes and put them inside.
  • Photoshop your favorite Rom Com movie poster(s) with your friend’s face on them. Turn it into a coupon for a girl’s night in with all your favorite junk food and favorite movies.
  • If you’re feeling Leslie Knope ambitious; give everyone a needlepoint pillow with their face on it and the leading headline of the day they were born, a mosaic of their face, or a 5,000 word essay of why they’re awesome.
