Just a few days ago, two of the world’s most incredible acts came together to deliver us a song that is complete magic to our ears. After some collaboration teasing from the electronic dance music duo, “Something Just Like This” is the newest chart-topping song brought to you by none other than the collaboration of Coldplay and The Chainsmokers.
Upon listening to the new track, it appears as if the two groups of artists were made to join together to create music. Coldplay’s classic songwriting and lyric style comes together beautifully with The Chainsmokers’ house beats. Chris Martin’s talented vocal range is well noted as he sings about looking for an ordinary love to call his own. His dreamy vocals capture the listener from the very beginning, when he takes you on a superhero-based journey through space in the song’s lyric video. The whimsical visuals of the video really give life to the collaborative track and soul catching vocals. Hearing the track allows the listener to recognize that the song stays true to the DJ duo’s style of music while incorporating the more recent sound of Coldplay.
The two groups came together to perform “Something Just Like This” live at the Brit Awards 2017. The song was only released two hours before their performance, making the award show the place to be for the first listen of the track. The song also appears on The Chainsmokers’ latest album, “Memories…Do Not Open,” which will be released on April 7. I never imagined that two of my favorite powerhouse groups would come together to form such a song, but I can without a doubt say that this new release will be on repeat for quite some time. If I had to describe this song in just a few words it would be: a match made in heaven.
