Movie Review: Gone Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

With Halloween right around the corner, people are cuddling up this crisp fall to watch thrilling films. Gone Girl, originating as a novel by Gillian Flynn, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike opened in theaters on October 3rd. Since then, it has grossed $2.1 million worldwide and was the top box office feature film for over two weeks. The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) on her 5th wedding anniversary drives the plot as Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) searches for his missing wife and the truth of their relationship begins to unfold. Suspicions of Nick’s role in the case increase with incoming evidence, and Amy’s annual anniversary scavenger hunt leads the detectives to further questions and answers. The direction of the story is continuously changing as more information surfaces, keeping audiences engaged and on their toes.

Personally, I’m not a fan of scary movies, but this chilling film has just enough spookiness to excite anyone watching it without the need to succumb to trite horror film segments. It’s a movie that leaves you stunned to the very end and thinking about the film long after you’ve left the cinema.

If you’re still not convinced, here’s the trailer:
