Living With Dean Price: The Inside Scoop

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like living with Dean Price? Well lucky for you, a freshman at Chapman named Jesse actually lives with him, and answered a few questions about her experience so far.

How do you know Dean Price?

Dean Price and my dad were college roommates when they attended school at Carthage College. Ever since they have been best friends, so I’ve grown up visiting Dean Price and his family and sometimes spending holidays with them.

Describe a typical day living with Dean Price and his family:

A typical day is basically just me doing my own thing. Both him and his wife are very busy, so a lot of times it is just me and their dog, Spinner. When they are home we have dinner together or just watch TV. At least once a week Dean Price and I get frozen yogurt at the end of the day, because we are both addicted to it!

Why did you choose to live there as opposed to the dorms?

The Price family invited me to live with them once they figured out they were moving close to campus. Of course, saving money was a factor in deciding to live with them, but I also wasn’t a huge fan of the concept of dorm living. This works out great because I’m still really close to campus and the dorms to be with friends but I have my own space to go back to.

How do most people react when you tell them you live with him?

I always get two reactions. There are the people who get really excited about it and ask tons of questions. They kind of go on a rant about how much they love Dean Price. Other people just look at me like it’s so weird even after I explain to them how I know him. They don’t really understand that for me it’s not like I’m living with the Dean, it’s like living with family. For the most part, it’s the upperclassmen that get excited when I tell them and it’s other freshman like me who don’t understand.

What’s your favorite part about living there?

My favorite part is having people here who I can talk to and help me with anything if I need it. I’m from Illinois, so having people here who are just like my family makes the move to here not so daunting.

What is Mrs. Price’s best home cooked meal?

Her chicken soup is so good! I could eat the leftovers for days, which I have done. She’s a spectacular cook and an even better baker!

Do you plan on living there next year?

I plan on living here all four years unless anything changes! Hopefully, I’ll be able to spend more time in the summer here as well since I love California a lot compared to back home.

Do you ever vent to him about tests, teachers, homework etc. and how does he react?

They both always ask me how school is going and how my tests went. I sometimes tell him stories about positive and occasionally negative things that teachers have done in class. He normally just laughs or offers advice. Again, it’s not like I’m complaining to Dean Price about a teacher it’s more just me talking to a family member about things my teachers do that can possibly be annoying!
