Explain your YouTube channel:

On my YouTube channel I talk about fashion and lifestyle. I also make videos about feminism, which is a big part of my life. My channel typically consists of “vlog-style” talking videos, weekly vlogs of my everyday life in college, as well as fashion lookbooks where I give styling advice. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but I love having that variety.

How did you get started?

Since 5th grade I’ve been filming and editing videos, but I started my current channel in 8th grade when I moved from LA to Orange County. I didn’t have a lot of friends, so I would watch YouTube videos all day. Eventually, I decided to start uploading my own.

Where do you draw inspiration for your videos?

I’ve really been inspired by other fashion and lifestyle vloggers, such as ClothesEncounters and EssieButton. But recently, I’ve been obsessed with Casey Neistat, filmmaker turned daily vlogger. His videos have inspired me to branch out and produce higher-quality content.

How have you been able balance your channel with Chapman?

It’s been hard making videos in my dorm, since I only have so much space to set up my equipment, but I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my uploads consistent. One thing I’ve started doing since moving in is weekly vlogging, where I film clips from my everyday life and then compile them into one video. My subscribers have responded really well to them so far, which is exciting because I was worried they’d be bored!

What is the best part of being a YouTuber?

The best part of being a YouTuber is interacting with my subscribers. It’s so exciting to talk to people from all over the world. My viewers are an amazing support system; they are so receptive to new things I introduce to my channel.

What is the most difficult part of being a YouTuber?

The hardest part of being a YouTuber is getting negative comments. I work really hard on my videos, so when people don’t respond in a positive way, it can hurt.

Piece of advice to people who want to start their own channels?

My biggest piece of advice is to just do it! I always have people telling me they want to start a channel, but they’re too scared. I always tell them that they should just go for it because it can be so rewarding and a lot of fun.
