10 Storylines That Must Be Answered in the Gilmore Girls Revival

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

When TV Line announced that Netflix was bringing back a 4-episode revival of “Gilmore Girls”, I almost screamed. I grew up with “Gilmore Girls”. I feel like I could live in Stars Hallow. I mean, I basically am Rory Gilmore. This was the best news I had heard in a long time.

Especially because season 7 of the show left SO many questions unanswered. So here are 10 things that must be answered in the revival:

1. Rory’s boyfriend

After going back and forth between a few guys, breaking our hearts with a few others, and turning down a proposal from the perfect man, we’ve all been wondering for the past 8 years who she’s ended up with. Rory only deserves the best!

2. Rory’s career

We watched her go through Chilton and graduate Yale, and she was just going off to cover (at the time) Senator Obama’s election run. As far as we knew, she was going off to take over the world. So where is she now? Is she writing for the New York Times? Is she winning Pulitzer Prizes? We would expect nothing less of Rory.

3. Luke and Lorelai

Finally FINALLY it seemed like Luke and Lorelai got their act together enough to be a couple. But, I mean, it was just one kiss in the last 5 minutes of the series, so we were supposed to assume that they ended up happily ever after. But what really happened? What was the wedding like? Do they have kids? Are they still living in Lorelai’s house? Too many questions to be addressed!

4. Richard’s death

Edward Hermann, who played Richard Gilmore, died in December, so of course the producers will have to do something to commemorate Richard. How will they say he died? How will Emily react? How will Lorelai — and especially Rory — get through it?

5. Lorelai and Emily’s relationship

Their mother-daughter relationship was always strained, and with Rory out of college, we were all left wondering how Lorelai and her parents would keep in touch. Maybe with Richard gone, Emily and Lorelai will become closer — or they’ll just bicker about funeral arrangements and everything will be the same.

5. Paris and Doyle

It seriously would not be surprising if Rory and Paris ended up working at some newspaper together — Rory can never really get rid of Paris! Although Paris was deciding between law and medicine, so who knows where she ended up. As for Paris and Doyle, are they married now? Do they have kids? Are they still performing creepy krav maga on each other?

6. Kirk

What we’ve been wondering for 8 years: Does Kirk still live with his mother?! How are he and Lulu doing? Are they married? Please God, don’t let Kirk be a father.

7. Lane, Zach, the twins, and Mrs. Kim

How is the happy Van Gerbig family going? The twins are almost 8 years old by this point — what are they like? What are Lane and Zach doing? Are they still in Hep Alien? Is Mrs. Kim still trying to micro-manage Lane’s life? Are they all one big happy family?

8. Christoper

Is Christopher even still relevant at this point? I’m sure he’ll make an appearance — probably begging for Lorelai’s hand in marriage again, or to throw a punch at Luke. Do the two still hate each other? How did Gigi turn out? There’s no doubt she has become a sassy teenager.

9. Sookie and Jackson

Since finishing up with “Gilmore Girls”, Melissa McCarthy has become WAY more famous than she ever was on the show, and plays polar opposite characters from Sookie. But we’re all crossing our fingers, hoping that she’ll reprise the beloved role of Sookie. Lorelai needs her best friend!

10. The “final 4 words”

Throughout the series, creator and producer Amy Sherman Palladino declared that there were 4 words she wanted to end the show with. But she broke our hearts by leaving the series after the sixth season, leaving us all in the dark about those 4 words! Hopefully this will give her the opportunity to show us those words, and end the series like she had planned all along.
