Why Spring Semester is Better than Fall Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Students were welcomed back to UNC for the spring semester with some very cold weather. Even though traveling to class is seemingly impossible during the frigid winter, students have much to look forward to in the spring semester that they did not in the fall.

For underclassmen, spring semester signifies the continued development of friendships and a better understanding of the flow of campus. In addition, as UNC Chapel Hill is known for its basketball championships, many students get fired up for conference play.

Spring semester means basketball and lots of it,” said first-year student Morgan Howard.

“It’s an indescribable feeling being on the risers in the Dean Dome and looking around and seeing everyone on their feet and hearing the roar in your ears.”

On the opposite end of college class spectrum is senior Morgan Johnson. While her time here at UNC is about to come to a close, she is soaking up every moment on this beautiful campus.

“I always look forward to the changing weather and the day parties that happen in all of the quads on campus,” said Johnson. “Plus you can’t beat Carolina basketball games…another great thing to look forward to this semester.”

Sometimes the winter does spark the desire to have someone to curl up with, which is why people refer to it as “cuffing season.” For that very reason, Christina Townsend, a junior at UNC, looks forward to the spring semester.

“The spring semester is always my favorite. The events that have been planned in the fall come to fruition, so there’s always something to do. Oh, and most importantly, cuffing season is over *insert praise hands emoji*” said Townsend.

Ultimately, students at UNC are lucky because they get to experience all four seasons on campus, and according to sophomore Monique Laborde, with each cold day that winter brings, we know that spring is coming.

“Laying on the sunny quad is so much sweeter after a long winter,” she said.
