Hear him discuss his take on muses, life in the spotlight, his new collection and what he would take if he were stranded on a desert island. When he asks himself where his inspiration comes from, he rejects the idea of having a muse. “The word muse is very limited,” he says. “ You can’t answer with giving one name because in fashion you have to dress everybody, so you need all kinds of muses: the attitude, the spirit, the approach to life and fashion. The KARL collection went on sale Jan. 26 and pieces have already sold out. The designer launched his collection both online and in a series of pop-up shops in the streets of Paris. What was unusual was that these pop-up shops didn’t contain any clothes. After endless hours of waiting to get their hands on items such as his iconic fingerless gloves, some even camping out overnight, customers could walk up to posters of models wearing the clothes they liked and scan pictures using their smartphones or iPads to purchase the items online — a perfectly modern take on shopping for a perfectly modern and cutting-edge line.

The collection is simply Karl: modern, minimalist and chic — with an edge. These leather collars, edgy t-shirts, metallic skinny jeans, sharp blazers and his famous fingerless gloves can transform any girl into her downtown, street-chic alter ego, all for an affordable price. Now you too can get your hands on one of Lagerfeld’s brilliant designs without breaking the bank. “It’s today’s taste and style and a reflection of how I think a great number of people would like to be dressed now,” Lagerfeld told Women’s Wear Daily. We can all agree with that statement.
 

KARL by Karl Lagerfeld features both day and evening wear while sticking to a muted palette of black, white and silver metallic. He uses bold, yet wearable materials: cotton, silk and of course a variety of leathers.   

Some notable, fashion-forward pieces are a cotton-terry pullover sweatshirt with PVC sleeves, a two-tone leather biker vest, sequined legging-style pants and a t-shirt featuring the fashion icon’s silhouette. And he doesn’t stop there. The line also includes a space-age leather clutch and leather wedge sandals. His ruched metallic silk dress is the perfect eye-catching look for a night out with friends.

Lagerfeld urges us that a woman does not need a cocktail dress or a couture gown to be chic (although his recent Chanel Paris Couture Week show was a hit). In his video interview, Lagerfeld said that a woman needs three basic pieces: “the right shirt, jeans and a jacket.” This is some easy, accessible advice we can all apply to our wardrobes.
